Quantization consists to find a set of color representative of the color distribution of the image. We are looking here for an optimal LUT (look up table) which contains information on the image's gamut and on the color distribution of this image. The main motivation of this work is to control the reproduction of color images on different output devices in order to have the same color feeling, coupling intrinsic informations on the image gamut and output device calibration. We have developped a color quantization algorithm based on an image dependant sampling of the CIELAB color space. This approach overcomes classical approaches.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128379799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Humans detect and interpret faces and facial expressions in a scene with little or no effort. Still, development of an automated system that accomplishes this task is rather difficult. There are several related problems: detection of an image segment as a face, facial features extraction and tracking, extraction of the facial expression information, and classification of the expression (e.g., in emotion categories). In this paper, we present our fully integrated system which performs these operations accurately and in real time and represents a major step forward in our aim of achieving a humanlike interaction between the man and machine.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130401178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model we propose addresses the problem of exploring the image space applying multiple similarity criteria by representing the search for the images similar to a given image as the exploration of a lattice of (non-disjoint) image clusters, induced by a natural ordering criterion, based on similarity measures. The exploration proceeds in one of two basic ways: (1) by querying, the user can jump to any cluster of the lattice, by specifying the criteria that the sought cluster must satisfy; or (2) by navigation: from any cluster, the user can move to a neighbor cluster, thus exploiting the ordering amongst clusters.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134159267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Classes of pixels are generally constructed by mode detection applied to the color histogram, but this method tends to fail when the color distributions of the different objects highly overlap in the color space. A new characteristic function of the distribution of the colors within the image is proposed here. The compacigram takes into account both the distribution of colors in the color space and the spatial location of colors in the image plane. Experimental tests on two reference images show that the mode detection technique based on a convexity analysis of the compacigram leads to promising results for segmentation purposes.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115895799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The content that resides in these libraries should be easily retrievable and classified in order to be fully accessible. This paper introduces a hybrid multimedia retrieval model accompanied by the presentation of a search engine that is capable of retrieving visual content cultural heritage multimedia libraries as in three modes: (i) based on semantic annotation with the help of an ontology; (ii) based on the visual features with a view to finding similar content; and (iii) based on the combination of these two strategies. The main novelty is the way in which these two co-operate transparently during the evaluation of a single query in a hybrid fashion, making recommendations to the user and retrieving content that is both visually and semantically similar.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"4 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124375167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The co-learning framework is based on the multiple instance learning theory. While this framework is a general framework that may be used in any specific domains, to evaluate this framework, we apply it to the Berkeley Drosophila ISH embryo image database for the evaluations of the retrieval and annotation performance. In addition, we also apply this framework to across-stage inferencing for the embryo images for knowledge discovery. We have compared the performance of the framework for retrieval, annotation, and inferencing on the Berkeley Drosophila ISH database with a state-of-the-art multimodal image retrieval and annotation method to demonstrate the effectiveness and the promise of the framework.","PeriodicalId":114866,"journal":{"name":"14th International Conference of Image Analysis and Processing - Workshops (ICIAPW 2007)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131275227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
