Their automatic production is a challenging task addressing classical problems of objects extraction and description. In this framework, ever growing quantity of content is already available in compressed form. This holds for SD video encoded in MPEG standards and for quickly coming HD video for which recent standards as MJPEG2000 are used. In particular, a custom color transformation is learned from an expert's enhancement of a single image on an extended gamut display. This methodology allows for the gamut-expansion to be defined in a contextually appropriate way. From the user-enhanced image, we compare defining the gamut expansion by one linear transformation, or by a multi-dimensional LUT which we learn via local linear regression. This paper proposes a filtering algorithm which brings a dramatic improvement in sharpening effects and reducing flat-area noises for natural color images. First, we generate a luminance slope map, which classifies a color image into the edge areas and the flat areas with uniform color. Second, the Gaussian derivative filter is applied to sharpening each segmented edge area. In order to keep color balance, the edge-sharpening filter is applied only to the luminance component of the color image. In the flat areas, a filter based on the SUSAN algorithm is applied to reducing the background noises with preserving sharpened edges. This aims to define a representation enabling 3D- 3D face recognition as well as the direct comparison between 2D face images of a subject against its 3D face model. This representation is extracted by measuring geodesic distances in 3D and 2D. In 3D, the geodesic distance between two points on a surface is computed as the length of the shortest path connecting the two points. In 2D, the geodesic distance between two pixels is computed based on the differences of gray level intensities along the segment connecting the two pixels. A solution for their implementation for the soccer video domain and a method to perform automatic soccer video annotation using these extended ontologies is shown. HSV is a widely adopted space in image and video retrieval, but its quantization for histogram generation can create misleading errors in classification of achromatic and low saturated colors. In this paper we propose an enhanced HSV histogram with achromatic point detection based on a single hue and saturation parameter that can correct this limitation. The more general concepts of the sport domain (e.g. play/break, crowd, etc.) are put in correspondence with the more general visual features of the video like color and texture, while the more specific concepts of the soccer domain (e.g. highlights such as attack actions) are put in correspondence with domain specific visual feature like the soccer playfield and the players. We propose a novel technique for indexing multimedia databases, whose entries can be represented as graph structures. In our method, the topological structure of a graph as well as that of its subgraphs are represented as vectors in which the components correspond to the sorted Laplacian eigenvalues of the graph or subgraphs. We draw from recently-developed techniques in the field of spectral integral variation to overcome the problem of computing the Laplacian spectrum for every subgraph individually. By doing a nearest neighbor search around the query spectra, similar but not necessarily isomorphic graphs are retrieved. The novelties of the proposed method come from the powerful representation of the graph topology and successfully adopting the concept of spectral integral variation in an indexing algorithm. A few works have been proposed to study the space of facial surfaces. In this paper, we represent a facial surface as a path on the space of closed curves in R3, called facial curves, and we study its differential geometry. A new Riemannian metric is then proposed to construct a geodesic path between two given facial surfaces. We first construct a geodesic path between arbitrary two facial surfaces and we define and compute the Karcher mean of several facial surfaces in this Riemannian framework.
