The conversion from the traditional networks to the SDN network has significant challenges that need a deep consideration. We consider the reliability and the scalability as critical factors that affect the SDN network. Generally, the criteria of reliability and the scalability of network are the following: the desired data rate at the data delivery, the high availability of the controller by eliminating the single point of failure, and finally the multiple topologies that are ancillary for scalable network. These criteria must be achieved in the SDN network also. We examine in details multiple controller architectures (i.e., centralized, distributed and hierarchical). We propose a framework for controller failover that increases the availability of SDN network and makes its framework more reliable and scalable.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126875908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a modified version of HOG is proposed by introducing compass gradient into the HOG calculation. Three different versions of the modified HOG features are used as an input for linear and nonlinear support vector machine (SVM). The modified HOG variants proved to have better classification performance than that of the standard HOG. The classification results of modified HOG and nonlinear SVM are compared to the classification results of YOLO object detector. Finally, a vehicle detection system based on the best performing classifiers is introduced.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126929640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bio-signals acquired by wearable inertial sensors is one type of data that can be used to accomplish that task. Also, machine learning techniques have become a standard pattern discovery tool in such a problem. This has stimulated the construction of many publicly available datasets to learn from, with variations in the number of sensors and activities, among others. The Human Gait Database (HuGaDB) is a state- of-the-art (SOTA) example of such datasets, and is considered the most comprehensive to date.In this paper, we incorporate four feature selection techniques along with four different classifiers to attain the highest recognition accuracy. Extensive analysis is first applied to determine the optimal number of features, which is then fed to four different techniques of sequential feature selection. We demonstrate that higher recognition accuracies are achievable with significant reduction in the number of features. We also show that sequential forward floating feature selection with the random forest classifier yields the highest recognition accuracies.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121097360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, creating and simulating an in-silico model to understand this phenomenon is not a straightforward task. One reason for such complexity is the requirement to employ deterministic and stochastic processes in one model. Therefore, hybrid simulation is of paramount importance in this context. Although many hybrid models have been proposed to study the dynamics of intracellular calcium, the speed of the underlying simulation algorithms is still slow as many of such algorithms do not take advantage of the structure properties of the intracellular calcium models. In this paper, we propose an efficient hybrid simulation that takes advantage of the model structure to boost the simulation performance. Our solution is based on the idea of coloured hybrid Petri nets to detect similar structures. We also compare the result of our simulation to the one produced by standard hybrid simulation.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"86 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115871880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such missions, rovers are set to rotate in circular orbits to sense useful data and transmit it to a mother ship in the center of the orbits. Rovers rely on the sun as a source of energy at day time and use their charged batteries for night work. With the energy being too scarce on Mars, further techniques need to be implemented to achieve the highest possible system lifetime. In this paper, the optimum initial position is determined to extend the lifetime of Mars exploration missions. Furthermore, a new more capable rover design is proposed and the best orbit in which it should be positioned, is determined. The results obtained from simulations showed that the proposed two techniques resulted in a higher lifetime of the mission.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"154 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115923138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the single-error correction code with length n is accorded a preference over the double error correction one with length 2n (in terms of error performance over AWGN channels), this article shows that the GLDPC code with BCH subcodes surpasses the Hamming-based one under nearly the same overall code rate. It also converges in less than half the number of iterations compared to different corresponding Hamming-based soft-decision decoding (SDD) systems. As a case study, Gallager-based global LDPC code is applied and the decoder is considered over AWGN channel. The simulation results are showing the performance against the code block length, number of iterations and Chase algorithm parameters.","PeriodicalId":113848,"journal":{"name":"2018 13th International Conference on Computer Engineering and Systems (ICCES)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124712357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
