Effective storing, browsing and searching collections of images is one of the most critical challenges of computer science. The design of architecture for storing such data requires a set of tools and frameworks such as database and service-oriented frameworks. With the vast growth of the Internet multimedia content, web services for CBIR systems are highly desirable. The proposed solution is based on a multi-layer architecture, which allows replacing any component without recompilation of other components. The approach is elastic and highly scalable. For experimental purposes we implemented the SURF local interest point detector as a feature extractor and k-means clustering as the image indexer. We also adopted an external solution, i.e. the CEDD descriptor into our system. The presented architecture is intended for content-based retrieval experiments as well as for real-world CBIR desktop and web applications.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128969384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new paradigm shift affects all the enterprise architecture layers from infrastructure to business. Organizations are nowadays faced with new challenges to keep their quality of service and competitive advantage over other rival organizations. Business Process Management (BPM) is a field among others that will be affected by this new technology. Both IoT and BPM communicate through events, and effective and efficient management of those events ensures a better communication channel between the IoT physical layer and the Business layer. However, the huge amount of those IoT generated events and sometimes the subtle difference between their criticality level, generate uncertainty regarding their priority level determination. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic-based event management approach to estimate the criticality level of the incoming IoT events using two fuzzy inference systems (FIS) and to manage the priority of business process instances triggered by those events. A case study is presented and the obtained results from our simulations demonstrate the benefit of our approach and allowed us to confirm the efficiency of our assumptions.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132098999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, our main focus is on semantics driven Quality of Service (QoS) aware service composition. Most of the contemporary approaches on service composition have used the semantic information to combine the services appropriately to generate the composition solution. However, in this paper, our objective is to use the semantic information to expedite the service composition algorithm. Here, we present a service composition framework that uses semantic information of a web service to generate different clusters, where the services are semantically related within a cluster. Our final aim is to construct a composition solution using these clusters that can efficiently scale to large service spaces, while ensuring solution quality. Experimental results show the efficiency of our proposed method.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128547857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To cope with the aforementioned problems, the replication mechanisms are often used. However, with the constantly growing scale of modern systems, providing the efficient replication becomes increasingly difficult. One of the ways to increase the replication efficiency is associated with the use of knowledge from social networks. This paper proposes a recommender service that exploits social relationships to provide a list of nodes that will hold replicated data. Such nodes are selected based on the value of the proposed matching degree metric. Our focus is also on evaluating the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"339 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124774493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To review the architecture designs in this context, it is necessary to explore different design decisions such as design styles, quality attributes (QAs), and evaluation methodologies. To this end, we aimed to investigate (i) architectural design styles, (ii) major QAs, and (iii) architecture evaluation methods that are applied in the cloud platforms in the automotive domain. We conducted an online survey to collect data from participants in industry and academia. Methodologies, such as descriptive statistics and grounded theory, were used to analyse the data. We collected 42 valid responses from participants with different roles, backgrounds, and years of experience. Considering the survey objectives, (i) event-driven and service-oriented architecture (SOA) were the most applied design styles to fulfil QAs. (ii) Availability, reliability, and security were the major QAs among other attributes. Finally, (iii) active reviews from intermediate design (ARID) and the scenario-based architecture analysis method (SAAM) were mostly applied when evaluating the architecture of cloud platforms in the automotive domain. The results of our survey show a spectrum of different applicable design styles, QAs, and evaluation methods. For selecting the set of architectural design decisions, one should consider the business scenarios and relevant quality requirements that should be supported by the cloud platforms in the automotive domain.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128714846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, given the high sensitivity of health data and the uncertainty in user environments, user-centric healthcare systems inevitably suffer from more frequent privacy threats, not to mention that technologies and business of data exploitation have generally outpaced the current privacy regulations and laws. Although there exist well-defined privacy preserving mechanisms, such as Data Encryption, Data Perturbation, and De-identification, they have been considered inadequate to address the diverse privacy challenges in big healthcare data analytics. Our argument is that, before considering any sophisticated mechanism, practitioners should first try to imitate human memory's forgetting process as an intrinsic privacy preserving strategy in user-centric healthcare. Technically, we implement this strategy by changing traditional data analytics routines into a distributed and disposable manner, so as to naturally exclude the data owners' sensitive information. The technical implementation essentially acts as a concrete How-To solution to satisfying a fundamental principle of privacy law, i.e. data minimization. We have initially applied our work to a smart bed project for sleep quality analytics, and received positive feedback on the effectiveness of privacy preservation in suitable homecare scenarios.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115132606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The challenge of providing sufficient throughput can be solved via automated horizontal scalability for IoT platforms' gateways. Firstly, to address this challenge, a study of the state-of-the-art solutions and approaches adopted in the industry to ensure predictable throughput at IoT gateways was conducted. Secondly, the following three gateways autoscaling metrics were studied on the in-house developed cloud-native IoT Platform: CPU utilization, the number of concurrent active connections, and the absolute throughput per gateway. The results of the experimental evaluation suggest the combination of rate limiting and active connection monitoring as a prerequisite for high throughput at IoT gateways.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128254188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the solutions to establish multi-tenant network in non-SDN environment is Multi-Protocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network that involves numerous and complicated protocols to be configured prior to the establishment of multi-tenant network. With SDN, it opens new opportunities to create multi-tenant networks that are less complicated, more automated, and lower implementation cost via SDN commodity devices. MToS categorizes OpenFlow switches into three hierarchies, where matching fields and actions in flow entries are different depending on the switch hierarchy. Therefore, traffic forwarding can be scalable. MToS provides tenant isolation through dedicate flow table associated with each tenant, and tenant MAC address as the identifier which is used in flow table redirection and packet header modification. Traffic forwarding between Edge switches is achieved through Edge MAC address as the identifier which is used in packet header modification, and Edge switch serves as ARP Proxy for tenant end hosts. Comparing to MPLS VPN, MToS only requires essential information about tenants to construct a multi-tenant network. By taking advantage of SDN centralized global network information, MToS adds automations of IP address management and shortest path routes calculation. MToS is developed based upon OpenFlow version 1.3, and implemented in Python and runs on top of Ryu SDN framework.","PeriodicalId":113517,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 12th Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications (SOCA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130021900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
