Making Sense of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Governance Framework in the Digital Ecosystem Utilizing a Sociotechnical Approach

Abstract

With digital transformation becoming a permanent residence of the enterprise world and service-oriented computing technologies maturing, companies are increasingly using business drivers to steer SOA efforts toward realization of digital business platforms through the identification and use of digital services. This emerging trend in SOA adoption has refocused the interest of management information systems researchers working in the SOA governance field on identifying avenues for business ecosystem alignment - business ecosystem modeling and engagement facilitation are seen as critical. The purpose of this paper is to present a case which illustrates the relevance of a sociotechnical systems approach in making sense of a generic SOA governance framework - a framework for aligning networked organization's people, technology artifacts and standards to deliver business value through service-oriented interactions - in the digital ecosystem.
