Content producers have begun creating high quality 3D video as well as building infrastructure for live streaming of stereoscopic 3D. When viewing live 3D video on a mobile device transmitted over a wireless network (such as LTE), network congestion and interference can lead to packet loss. The 3D viewing experience can be severely impacted by lost data, so it is vital to have a rate adaptation method for graceful degradation. We propose a combined system composed of a packet prioritization method for transmission and an error concealment strategy for viewing 3D-HEVC encoded video transmitted over an LTE network. This system improves the quality of experience by prioritizing packets with higher quality impact based on the number of dependent packets, leading to a superior PSNR and reduced playback freezes. This media-aware transmission approach is evaluated using the Vienna LTE-A Simulator; results show that it outperforms media-agnostic transmission from light to heavy network load with stringent startup delays. The evaluation demonstrates the utility of media-aware 3D-HEVC transmission and provides motivation for future media-aware developments in multi-view plus depth transmission.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131294511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Other mobile devices, such as handheld phones and laptops, can relay information to the embedded infotainment system through Bluetooth and vehicle WiFi. The ability to extract information from these systems would help forensic analysts determine the general contents that is stored in an infotainment system. Based off the data that is extracted, this would help determine what stored information is relevant to law enforcement agencies and what information is non-essential when it comes to solving criminal activities relating to the vehicle itself. This would overall solidify the Intelligent Transport System and Vehicular Ad Hoc Network infrastructure in combating crime through the use of vehicle forensics. Additionally, determining the content of these systems will allow forensic analysts to know if they can determine anything about the end-user directly and/or indirectly.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132391345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many link metrics are proposed to predict it based on the vehicles' velocities and distance between vehicles. However, there is a lack of comparison of these metrics under the same framework. In this paper, we compare several common adopted link metrics, LLT (link life time), SLS (spatial locality similarity), and SF (similarity function), in the performance of link duration prediction, according to a real vehicular mobility trace of the city of Cologne, Germany. We find that there exists a large gap in between the predicted link duration order and real link duration order for the real traffic trace, and there is no winning link metric in all scenarios. Furthermore, as an example, we show that, by combining existing link metrics intelligently, it is possible to create a new link metric that predicts link duration better.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129921594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a joint localization algorithm that utilizes the position of a mobile sink, e.g., a vehicle, and of the neighbor nodes to estimate the position of nodes with no GPS modules. A data dissemination algorithm is proposed based on the well-known Greedy Geographic Forwarding (GGF) algorithm by combining the position of the neighbors and their remaining power when deciding where to send a packet to. The concept of bridges is also introduced, in which the sink compares its current position with previous positions and calculates whether there is a shortest path in order to create a bridge that will reduce the number of hops a packet has to travel through. According to our performance evaluation experiments, LOGR shows a slight improvement on network lifetime compared to GGF, while keeping similar delivery ratio performance. Including the power level of nodes in the forwarding decision equation tends to increase the path length to the sink. However, results show that bridges can minimize this increase by shortening the path.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124632762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, in forced flow traffic scenarios as the primary case of safety-critical situations, reliability is paramount for inter-vehicle communications to be useful. Not surprising, in these scenarios, the hidden terminal effect is expected to be especially severe, mainly due to the high vehicle density. Accurate characterization of this problem and the extent of its impact on reliability requires that realistic aspects of the traffic system and radio propagation environment are taken into consideration. In this paper, we investigate the hidden terminal problem under realistic conditions with focus on safety-critical traffic scenarios. A state-of-the-art radio propagation model targeted for vehicular environments is employed to characterise the interference power induced by hidden nodes. Our combinations of experiments with various velocities and lane configurations show that, in a road segment operating at full capacity, the hidden terminal interference causes a significant decline in the reachable distance of safety messages, leading to broadcast coverage smaller than safety applications requirements.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"822 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126963304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article, approaches this problem by considering the effect of different traffic arrival distributions on the choice of routing strategy for enhancing goodput of IEEE 802.11 DCF based multi-hop wireless networks under hidden terminal existence. Different traffic arrival distributions; including Poisson, constant bit rate (CBR), Pareto and Exponential are considered, relaxing the generally adopted Poisson assumption, for various data rates over a wide range of traffic loads extending from unsaturated to saturated traffic loads. The goodput performance for all traffic arrival distributions is found to be dependent on the traffic load in multi- hop networks. Of the four traffic models used, the network achieved the best goodput with Pareto and Exponential ar- rival distributions for light trafficc loads, where CBR performs slightly better under heavy loads. The results suggest that a traffic load-aware pre-control mechanism on the traffic arrivals to the IEEE 802.11 MAC layer might provide signifcant goodput gains in multi-hop wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":113404,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th ACM Symposium on Development and Analysis of Intelligent Vehicular Networks and Applications","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126135071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
