Operations capable of total cardiac revascularization are: 1) single internal mammary artery implant into a tri-arteriolar zone in left ventricular wall; 2) single implant into anterior wall of right ventricle; 3) combining single or double implants with epicardiectomy and free omental graft. Locations of tri-arteriolar zones in human hearts are outlined. Anastomoses between anterior descending and circumflex arterioles and mammary arteries implanted into bi-arteriolar zones are shown experimentally. Experience with patients who had left internal mammary arteries implanted into tri-arteriolar zones alone or combined with epicardiectomy and free omental graft, is outlined. As assessed by external counting at 30 days post-exposure, the lungs of groups of dogs not lavaged, and those lavaged on day 0, day 8, day 16, or days 0, 8 and 16 post-exposure, contained 95, 88, 80, 74, and 72 percent of their initial burden, respectively. It can, however, result from external compression of the superior vena cava or innominate veins by an intrathoracic goiter. Roland as Department Editor of our new section, “Medical History.” Dr. Roland was born and raised in Canada and received his M.D. from the University of Manitoba in 1958. He was a Senior Editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association from 1964 to March, 1969, when he was named Head, Section of Publications at the Mayo Clinic. He is a member of the editorial boards of Diseases of the Chest, Postgraduate Medical Journal and the American Medical Writers Association Bulletin. He is a co-author of the book, Scientific Writing, and has published widely in the realm of medical history. On August 18, 1969, Dr. Roland became Chairman of a newly created Department of the Medical Library and of Publications, Mayo Foundation Library. The new department will include the Mayo Medical Library and the Section of Publications. The nonvulnerability to fibrillation and the benign hemodynamic nature of this type of ventricular tachycardia is stressed.
