Multiple networks will be overlaid to provide supplemented connectivity to a user. Competitive options in the current communication technologies need to be carefully studied for designing an interworking solution. Extensive amount of work is done on interworking of UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) with WiFi (wireless fidelity). However, due to WiFi's limited coverage it could not offer all benefits associated with interworking. With more recent technologies like WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access) in the market; which offers wireless broadband access with mobility support (IEEE 802.16e), and can be deployed for a wider coverage; we can interwork it with UMTS for enhancing its performance. In this paper, we present the interworking architecture of WiMAX with UMTS. We highlight a scenario where a UMTS operator can control access of a client within two networks (UMTS, WiMAX) and port packet-data to a supportive network in the last mile. We also discuss the commercial viability for this architecture","PeriodicalId":112974,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Multi-Conference on Computing in the Global Information Technology - (ICCGI'06)","volume":"13 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114120504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With MPLS, the advantages of a label switching technology in the core of the Internet are complemented by its applicability at the edge especially for deploying secure and robust virtual private networks. The existence of MPLS at the edge of the Internet also allows new label forwarding based solutions to be deployed. We propose a framework that uses larger MPLS frames called MPLS meta-frames to increase the throughput of MPLS networks. Such an approach could also help future Terabit speed GMPLS optical core switches by increasing the average length of the packets traversing the Internet core and so reducing the performance requirements of these switches. Processing packets at the network edge in this way where it can be done with low-performance hardware such as software routers, results in more \"core-friendly\" Internet traffic","PeriodicalId":112974,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Multi-Conference on Computing in the Global Information Technology - (ICCGI'06)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116297725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, NATs block the data transmitted directly between two clients under different private networks in many P2P (peer to peer) applications. A protocol, STUN, has been proposed by IETF to solve the problem. But if the NAT is symmetric NAT, the STUN can't tackle it effectively. Another protocol of TURN has been proposed to complement the limitation of STUN, however, it brings the additional cost of resources. Now, almost all the research into the problem are concentrated on using middle server to transmit data among clients although this way brings the additional consumption of network bandwidth and transmission delays at the same time. To solve this problem, this paper makes many practices in symmetric NAT traversal and proposes a new algorithm PS-STUN that can traversal symmetric NAT and transmits data directly between the clients in the situations where the STUN isn't enabling. Through emulation tests, we prove that the algorithm is efficient and can solve the symmetric NAT traversal trouble about STUN","PeriodicalId":112974,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Multi-Conference on Computing in the Global Information Technology - (ICCGI'06)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130159873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transition mechanisms perform conversions between versions 4 and 6 of the IP protocol, offer tunnelling functionality and act as connection points between isolated (in the sense of IP versioning) network segments. In this paper we examine IPv6 transition mechanisms (focusing in tunnelling mechanisms) and their management requirements. Specifically, we examine in the most widely used mechanism, 6to4. We present its operational characteristics and identify its main management requirements. These requirements are then used to define corresponding objects for an SNMP management information database (MIB). Our aim is to use the SNMP methodology to address the most important IPv6 transition mechanism issues in a unified network administration environment. Our effort has resulted in a working prototype SNMP agent that implements most of our management object suggestions. To have QoS provision at application level, effective congestion control is very necessary. We investigate this problem and present a network-aware scalable video congestion control mechanism in heterogeneous wireless networks. The mechanism not only adapts to the dynamical network condition, but also improves the perceived visual QoS. In this control mechanism, first, each layer of the scalable video is given different protection in terms of packet loss and delay. Secondly, we monitor or model the bottle link to estimate the available network bandwidth dynamically. Thirdly, the QoS mapping module translates the QoS exponents to the effective capacity according to the effective capacity theory. Lastly, the congestion control mechanism adjusts the scalable video according to the compare result between the estimated bandwidth and the requested effective capacity. Finally, simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of our congestion control mechanism","PeriodicalId":112974,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Multi-Conference on Computing in the Global Information Technology - (ICCGI'06)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122723148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
