A new metric called scaling factor is defined as the ratio between the broadcasting coverage and cellular coverage, indicating the coverage characterization of both two systems under the same power constraint. The numerical result shows that the scaling factor is highly related with the antenna height and transmission power. First, as the antenna height increases, the scaling factor increases. Second, the scaling factor decreases as the transmission power increases. Furthermore, once the transmission power exceeds a certain range, the scaling factor is robust to the transmission power.","PeriodicalId":112418,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126924637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The forthcoming high-speed mobile communications are expected to provide a variety of services, from high-quality voice to high-definition videos. In order to fulfill the requirement of passengers, we use heterogeneous convergence network architecture for high-speed train communication system, where TD-LTE system is used to realize the train-ground communication and the vehicle-mounted communication supports various current communication modes (e.g. 2G, 3G and WiFi). In this paper, we propose a QoS-guaranteed resource scheduling algorithm and a railway resource grab mechanism in high-speed environment, which can ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) for users and the timely transmission for railway signal in this heterogeneous network. The proposal implements virtual resource mapping mechanism for 2G/3G/WiFi to TD-LTE and distributes the service waiting time according to the real-time demand of different service type. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm vastly increases the throughput and reduces the packet loss ratio. Meanwhile, it improves the effectiveness and fairness of application service transmission.","PeriodicalId":112418,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"104 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123389578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This results in low profits for operators. By applying appropriate pricing strategies, wireless radio resources can be utilized more adequately, and promising improvement of operation profits can be achieved. In this paper, a dynamic pricing strategy for delay tolerant service aggregation multicast in wireless networks is proposed. With this strategy, client behaviors are well adjusted by differentiation of prices, and the congestions in peak-traffic periods can be well relieved, leading to increments of operators' profits. Simulation results show that our proposed dynamic pricing scheme outperforms existing pricing schemes, with regard to service rejection rate and operation profits.","PeriodicalId":112418,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"536 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115895660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We design, implement, and evaluate a context-aware decision algorithm, called CADA, to optimize the performance of the mobile devices with various optimization criteria, including short response time and low energy consumption. The CADA algorithm can work with various mobile cloud offloading systems proposed in the literature. We have implemented the CADA algorithm and integrated it with ThinkAir, and conducted experiments with real Android users. The evaluation results reveal that: (i) the importance of a context-aware decision engine, (ii) the high prediction accuracy of the CADA algorithm, (iii) the performance improvement (in both response time and energy consumption) achieved by the CADA algorithm, and (iv) the negligible overhead incurred by the CADA algorithm and other software components in our system. Existing models like two-dimensional hexagonal grid model or homogeneous spatial poisson point process (SPPP) are based on the assumption that BSs are ideal or uniformly distributed, but the aggregation behavior of users in hot spots has an important effect on the location of low power nodes (LPNs), so these models fail to characterize the distribution of BSs in the current mobile cellular networks. In this paper, firstly existing spatial models are analyzed. Then, based on real data from a mobile operator in one large city of China, a set of spatial models is proposed in three typical regions: dense urban, urban and suburban. For dense urban area, “Two Tiers Poisson Cluster Superimposed Process” is proposed to model the spatial characteristics of real-world BSs. Specifically, for urban and suburban area, conventional SPPP model still can be used. Finally, the fundamental relationship between user behavior and BS distribution is illustrated and summarized. Numerous results show that SPPP is only appropriate in the urban and suburban regions where users are not gathered together obviously. Principal parameters of these models are provided as reference for the theoretical analysis and computer simulation, which describe the complex spatial configuration more reasonably and reflect the current mobile cellular network performance more precisely.","PeriodicalId":112418,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115695586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, real-time LDPC decoder in virtual radio system is difficult to realize. Taking CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) for instance, this paper proposes a method to achieve high throughput decoder based on x86 processors which support SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) instructions. By utilizing Normalized Min Sum decoding algorithm, normalized parameter as well as bit width of input variables and intermediate variables are determined. Then taking advantages of SIMD instructions, updating progress of variable nodes and check nodes in LDPC decoding algorithm is parallelized. Meanwhile, memory access operations are optimized as well.
