An online stock market simulation emphasizes the integration of the computer into academic curricula and can be used with different audiences to begin teaching about how the stock market functions with students as young as elementary school, effectively with secondary school students and definitely with undergraduate business students. The stock market simulation involves teams of students investing US$100,000 in “play” money into a portfolio of stocks that the students research and track and from which they make discretionary buy and sell decisions. Teachers have experienced many learning benefits by utilizing a stock market simulation. By working in small groups, team‐building skills are introduced. Through the research and tracking stage of stock selection, critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills are developed and a new curriculum is born that mirrors the reality of the stock market.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114071160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A questionnaire was completed by 234 participants at the 1998 California Academy of Family Physicians Annual Scientific Assembly to analyze the recommendation, administration, and attitudes towards CAM by family physicians. This study indicates a large percent of California family physicians recommend and administer CAM to their patients. In addition, the results illustrate the importance of incorporating knowledge of CAM into medical education and the essential role family physicians play in the integration of conventional and CAM therapies.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134055726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the framework of this database, users are able to browse citations to relevant topics or search for specific aspects. The nature of the selected resources, their description, and associated methods for searching, viewing, saving, and exporting are outlined. The features and functionalities of the host Web‐based database management software are also described.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132337886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For many organisations it encapsulates the knowledge and know‐how and thus is a vital business asset. It has similar importance in quality of life aspects – healthcare, environment and culture. Grey literature in a R&D (research and development) environment represents the cutting edge of this knowledge and so its management is of utmost importance. Partly based on involvement in defining the datamodels for R&D information interchange across Europe, the author defines a content metadata datamodel for grey literature which is more expressive and has more flexibility than any previous proposal and which integrates seamlessly with the CERIF2000 definition which will soon replace the CERIF1991 European Union Recommendation to Member States on Exchange of R&D Information. The content metadata datamodel offers significant advantages over Dublin Core yet can generate Dublin Core if required.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122523238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The “other” grey literature, publications issued by alternative presses, attempts to inform readers about aspects of a particular scientific endeavor that may have social ramifications. In the electronic age, the World Wide Web has played a major role in making scientific information accessible to a wide audience more rapidly and efficiently. This democratic approach to information dissemination in science is changing the way science is perceived and implemented in our daily lives. Alternative presses in both electronic and print formats will continue to play a role in shaping the science research and public policy agendas well into the future. This article explores the role of alternative presses and its impact on scientific communication.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127013520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transformation of information from maps to spatial data could likely be omitted from discussions as well. The author argues for an approach that focuses not on product, but on content. Three types of grey map presentations are profiled: a series, the US Geological Survey’s (USGS) Open‐file Report series; a collection, the Long Island Sound Resource Center; and an annual publication, the Environmental Sciences Research Institute’s (ESRI) Map Book. This material has played an important part in communicating women’s knowledge(s) and instigating activism. This paper considers the development of grey literature within feminism and its value to feminism, in brief. The key focus of the paper is in the potentials of the Internet as a communication mechanism and for feminist grey literature. Consideration is given to rapidly expanding forms of feminist grey literature on the Internet, and the potentials and concerns raised by this grey medium are discussed. Despite fears raised by some writers about the dangers and difficulties of cyberspace for women, overall this paper is optimistic about the potentials for feminist grey literature. Hence, it is suggested that grey literature on the Net offers global feminist sustenance; potential empowerment; and a means to challenge social inequalities.","PeriodicalId":111408,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Grey Literature","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121291408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
