We have reported an estimation method for generation of solid objects with curved surfaces from inconsistent views for some simple cases (T. Watanabe and Y. Chao, 1998). We extend our method to deal with more complicated cases, where two or three cylinders with same radius intersect each other at right angles and cylinders contains some cut section. The intrinsic characteristics in three views of these solid objects are drawn out and utilized in the estimating process. Moreover, a verifying method is proposed to examine whether a generated solid object is suitable.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. Side-by-side, object oriented computing has revolutionised, during the current decade, the style of programming and software system design and development which is now configured around the 'class' concept. We present a general purpose object oriented toolkit which serves as a generic utility for wide ranging applications involving optimisation of both single and multiple objectives. The toolkit supports the state of the art of genetic optimisation techniques; the design is modular, flexible and extensible, in line with the object oriented programming paradigm. The toolkit is currently being implemented in C++ for obvious reasons of wider support and portability across platforms. Templates and derived classes are used for elegance and reuse of the code and the library. The interfaces try to hide as many of the implementation details as possible so that the programming and modification at higher level become simple. Nonetheless, defining interfaces is an iterative process, so with the design and implementation of the toolkit, with each major addition and upgrade, they are constantly evolving.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. With the proliferation of the Internet and the increasingly widespread use of sophisticated computers, the multimedia revolution has arrived in India as well. It is therefore time to take stock of the situation: to evaluate how existing techniques can be used in the Indian context and to determine what new methods have to be developed. This paper summarizes the current state of multimedia technology in India and points to directions for further work. As more and more people in India begin to use computers and the Internet, multimedia capabilities will start playing a vital role in solving problems in many different areas. Education is probably one of the most important areas where multimedia technology can have a major impact. Already, multimedia educational systems are being developed in Indian languages. Several interactive encyclopaedia-like environments are also being marketed on CD-ROMs, and cover topics ranging from Indian classical music to Indian history, using text, images and sound. Some of the other possible applications of multimedia technology are: the development of digital libraries, news and information dissemination services, medicine, business and commerce, and the entertainment industry. Multimedia information technology is thus poised to become an exciting area for research and development activities in India.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. Yoo","doi":"10.1109/ICCIMA.1999.798524","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICCIMA.1999.798524","url":null,"abstract":"The continuing increase in packing density of VLSI circuits requires that the inspection process be completely automated. The paper suggests a new method for automatic inspection of that part of the wire bond where the wire connects to the bond pad on the chip. A popular type of bonding (connected to bond pad) known as \"ball bond\" is considered. Although several approaches for ball bond inspection have been introduced, they do not reveal efficient results. The suggested method consists of five steps: (1) enhance the edges using Binomial and the modified Laplace filter; (2) binarize the image: (3) extract center point of the ball bond; (4) extract the ball bond boundary; (5) fit the ellipse using direct ellipse-specific fitting. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed method performs the inspection of ball bond more fast and accurately as compared to the conventional ball bond inspection methods. In addition, our method finds the size and orientation of the ball from the bond image containing the part of the ball.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. In this paper, we first describe the features of a new cache management algorithm called AVBB (Adaptive Viewers, Bias-Based). With the firm belief that some video viewers can settle for a video other than their first choice, we then propose making the cache transparent of its video contents to the viewers as a technique to improve cache performance. Finally, we evaluate the improvement which cache transparency brings to AVBB.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. A prototype search by a genetic algorithm which is capable of creating new prototypes is compared against a direct prototype selection algorithm. First, a rule induction system based on a rough set model is introduced and is applied to a database for diagnosis of headaches to extract diagnostic rules. Then, by use of the induced knowledge, an expert system which makes a differential diagnosis of headaches is developed. Finally, this expert system is evaluated at an outpatient clinic, the results of which show that the system performance is reasonable, compared with a medical expert.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. As the image search engine, a simple and variable dimension feature based matching method was adopted and an optimum representative frames (r-frames) selection technique was used for the automatic indexing method. Comparative experiments with the conventional region based image search engine using static image database and visualized sound database showed that the difference of the retrieval accuracy is small and the proposed feature based search engine is advantageous for VQA application. Results of video frame retrieval experiments showed that the proposed VQA is a promising query tool for distributed video databases on the network.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications. An abstract specification of the design is converted to a set of appropriate input vectors using a mathematical method, called \"multidimensional scaling\". These vectors which have, in general, higher dimensionality, are fed to the self-organizing map at random in order to map them onto a 2-dimensional plane of the regular chip. The mapping is done in such a way that the cells with higher connectivity are placed close to each other, hence minimizing total connection length in the design. The results show improvement over other neural network based approaches in terms of both efficiency and the quality of results. The capability of our approach in handling external ports as well as nonrectangular (rectilinear) boundaries makes it appropriate for the placement of hierarchical designs.","PeriodicalId":110736,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Third International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications.
