With regard to treatment principles, the orthodontic therapy can be classified into several categories; one principle used in the correction of malocclusion in children is to influence growth in various ways, with fixed or removable appliances. Lack of knowledge on individual growth pattern and on the interaction with appliance, renders prediction of exact treatment results a difficult task with a low validity.

Lack of general medical practitioner’s knowledge of oral disease has been shown to contribute to delays in referral and treatment, thus significantly affecting the associated morbidity and mortality. The present study was undertaken to assess knowledge, attitude and dental awareness among medical practitioners in Kanpur city, Uttar Pradesh India. The present study is Cross-sectional survey conducted among the medical practitioner in Kanpur city, Uttar Pradesh, India. A random sample of 270 Medical Practitioners were chosen from those registered in Indian Medical Association Kanpur city branch, and a list was made by simple random sampling method. These practitioners included those with MBBS degree/MBBS degree along with higher specialization (MD/MS/Mch) and lastly were medical practitioners, who were diploma holders. The data pertaining to their knowledge, attitude and awareness about oral health was gathered using a self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results of the study showed that the medical practitioners had good knowledge about dentistry. This study enlightens the dental and medical practitioners to have vast knowledge about oral manifestations of systemic diseases, and thereby help in early diagnosis which can prevent the further spread and thus reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality.

Since growing numbers of patients with chronic renal failure have been documented worldwide, the dental team has a significant role in providing oral care for patients with such disease. \u0000The objectives of this study were to analyze the prevalence of oral lesions in hemodialysed patients compared to healthy individuals and to find a possible link between different subjective symptoms and objective clinical findings. \u0000Patients and methods: An observational, case-control, cross-sectional study was carried out in 109 patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on maintenance HD in comparison to 154 healthy controls in different health centers of Sulaimani city, Kurdistan region of Iraq. Various oral findings were documented by acknowledged dentist who implements well-known clinical diagnosis criteria for ESRD-associated oral manifestations. The data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistical software program to find the association between varibles; a p-value < 0.05 were considered as significant. \u0000Results: The most common prevalent oral manifestations in haemodialysis group of patients were dry mouth (76.1%), coated tongue (73.4%), uremic fetor (66.1%), unpleasant taste (64.2%) and pale oral mucosa (60.6%); while linea alba was the most prevalent finding in healthy group. There was a significant relation with high Odds Ratio between dry mouth with uremic fetor, unpleasant taste, and oral mucosal pain. \u0000Conclusions: Results of the present study indicated that a variety of oral manifestations is shown in patients with ESRD on maintenance hemodialysis in comparison to healthy individuals. \u0000Early detection of these findings is of great importance, as it would allow the dentist to implement therapeutic and preventive measure for patients awaiting a renal transplant.

Information on subjects’ personal characteristics, the subjects’ frequency of helmet use, situations determining the use of helmet, knowledge on consequences of road traffic accident, potential of helmet to prevent head injury or death from fatal accidents, attitudes towards helmet use and barriers to helmet use were assessed. Data was compiled and descriptive statistics was computed. \u0000Results: Only 30% of the surveyed subjects reported of unconditional helmet use while driving two- wheelers. More than half of the study participants believed that if they did not wear helmets, they were at a risk of injury from road accidents. 50% believed that injury as a consequence of not wearing helmet could affect their functioning at school. 50% of the study subjects reported that media was the chief contributor in promotion of helmet use for safe driving. \u0000Conclusion: Although the surveyed subjects knew about the importance of wearing helmets and had positive attitude towards helmet use, the same did not translate to greater helmet use. Hence, a need for strict regulatory approach is realized for implementation of helmet use among two-wheeler riders.

A wide range of commercially available products for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity contain potassium, strontium, oxalates, fluoride salts and recently calcium sodium phosphosilicate and proarginine. More recently, the toothpastes containing carbonated hydroxyapatite nanocrystals are being studied. These have high reactivity by which they bind to enamel and dentine apatite producing a biomimetic coating on enamel, contrasting plaque formation. They also prevent tooth from decay, rebuild and revitalize the teeth and seal dentinal tubules, annulling hypersensitivity. In near future new products of this kind will be a breakthrough in the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity.
