These physical parameters can be obtained by specially setting up a suitable reference model and plug-in models in the simple adaptive control (SAG) algorithm. Digital implementation for the proposed adaptive algorithm is also presented, in which the relative degree problem is solved by a serial compensation scheme for a non-ASPR system. The effectiveness of the proposed auto-tuning algorithm is examined in experimental studies in velocity control of an AC synchronous servo motor. It is clarified that the proposed scheme can simultaneously give perfect tracking to the reference output and the specified attenuation performance of the closed-loop system, even if the load mass largely changes uncertainly.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. In the near future, the aircraft are expected to be used for a wide array of activities, such as rescuing and fire fighting. Then, an autonomous flight control using several sensors typified by GPS is expected. In this paper, system identification experiments for a large-scale unmanned helicopter have been carried out. The helicopter is compensated by attitude control that permits the experiments during the flight. Using input and output data, system identification results are shown through numerical analysis. Moreover, the effectiveness of the identified model is demonstrated through a position control based on the H/sub /spl infin// control theory.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. The output predictor is designed using the online state estimates from a joint state and parameter estimator, which is based on the ordinary Kalman filter. As the parameters are estimated together with the state in real-time, a state feedback-based adaptive controller can be designed by using these estimated parameters and states. Therefore, the designed system is a whole state feedback adaptive system. The computer simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of these techniques.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. The performance of the device is currently limited by the actuator performance. A dynamic simulation of the system indicates that the actuator torque may be better controlled with torque feedback, resulting in improved path-following performance of the haptic interface. Experimental tests are presented which illustrate the validity of the simulation and feasibility of implementing torque feedback control on the system clutches.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. The continuous sensitivity equation method (CSEM), applied to such coupled systems, naturally leads to a coupled system of linear equations for the sensitivities. We introduce a model problem, based on one-dimensional gas dynamics with heat addition, to study this coupling. Numerical studies indicate that a Gauss-Seidel blocking of the sensitivity equations permits the re-use of single-discipline sensitivity procedures in such problems with multi-disciplinary physics.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. A robust nonlinear adaptive controller is designed which uses only the motor position (i.e., the output) for feedback and does not require knowledge of electromechanical system parameters, such as parameters in the friction model, rotor inertia, etc. Moreover, the proposed controller can reject any bounded unknown disturbance. The reduced-order Lunberger observer is introduced and an observer-based backstepping procedure is carried out. Simulation results are depicted to show the performance of the advocated controller.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. In this paper, we present a new application of a discrete-time H/sub /spl infin// filter to the tracking of harmonic components in a power system. The H/sub /spl infin// filter, unlike the traditional Kalman filter, does not require the statistical information about disturbances, but only requires that the measurement and process noises to be bounded disturbances. Simulation results show that, if adjusted properly, an H/sub /spl infin// filter can track the changes in the harmonics.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000. {"title":"Effect of sinusoidal base motion on a magnetic bearing","authors":"M. Kasarda, J. Clements, A. Wicks, C. Hall, R. G. These include flywheels for energy storage in terrestrial applications, such as buses and trains, and also in space-based applications, such as satellites. Most of the existing research literature on magnetic bearings is for static systems where the base is stationary. For vehicular applications, magnetic bearings will be subject to base motion that will have significant effects on the dynamics. In addition, magnetic bearings designed for vehicle use are expected to be power-limited, which leads to decreased stiffness and damping. The implications of these effects on the design of active magnetic bearing systems are significant but have not been fully investigated. In order to address the base motion scenario, a small non-rotating test rig with a single magnetic bearing mounted on a shaker has been built and tested to study the effect of sinusoidal base motion on the magnetic bearing's ability to support a target mass. The tests include base excitation of the system at different frequencies and amplitudes including the natural frequency of the system. Results from this test rig for three cases of bearing stiffness and damping properties are presented. Test results show both linear and non-linear behavior for the cases of bearing stiffness and damping tested. The tests also demonstrate the implications associated with the requested level of stiffness and damping on limiting the operating performance range of the magnetic bearing undergoing sinusoidal base motion.","PeriodicalId":108537,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2000.
