Sarte","doi":"10.24113/IJOHMN.V5I2.89","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24113/IJOHMN.V5I2.89","url":null,"abstract":"This study assessed the effectiveness of lesson exemplars in the teaching of pop-up writing to AB English students of Cebu Technological University- Main Campus during the Academic Year 2016-2017. This study utilized the quasi- experimental research design: the lesson exemplar is the independent variable while the students’ level of creativity in writing is the dependent variable. The study revealed that the entry level pop-up writing performance of the respondents was neutral in all criteria. This performance is numerically highest for story structure and lowest for creativity. Moreover, the LE1 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is good for story structure and topic development but remained neutral for language use and creativity, the LE2 popup writing performance of the respondents is good for story structure but remained neutral for language use, topic development, and creativity, and the LE3 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is good for all four (4) criteria. The increase in LE1 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is significant for story structure and topic development but the change is negligible for language use and creativity, the increase in LE2 pop-up writing performance of the respondents is significant for story structure; yet the changes are negligible for language use, topic development, and creativity, and there were no significant differences in the LE3 pop-up writing performance. Langston Hughes was conceived on February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. He distributed his first lyric in 1921. He went to Columbia University, yet left following one year to travel. He proceeded to compose incalculable works of verse, writing and plays, and in addition a prominent section for the Chicago Defender. He passed away from this world on May 22, 1967. (Editors, 2014) When you were younger, has anyone treated you good or bad according to your behavior? Or do you remember any incident of your life in which you made a mistake and someone offered you a chance for changing your life? Langston Hughes' short story, “Thank You, Ma'am”, distributed in 1958, catches the two circumstances. Langston Hughes was a vital and productive essayist amid the Harlem Renaissance of the mid twentieth century. He expounded on African-American life and experience. Much thanks to You Ma'am is about what happens when a high school kid and a more seasoned working lady crash on a Harlem road. There are three major topics present in “Thank You, Ma'am”: Forgiveness and Empathy, the Power of Love and Trust, and Christian Charity. S. Naipaul was writer of Indian origin writer settled in Great Britain and Rabindranath Tagore was Bengali writer born and brought up in India. Both were Nobel Laureates in Literature. Based on their overall behavior and treatment with the colonized people, Tagore a patriot to the core, saw and judged the foreign colonisers from his Indian patriotic point of view. He realised how and why they sucked India for their own benefit to the utter neglect of Indians. But Naipaul’s ancestors migrated perhaps under compulsion to the Caribbean islands where Naipaul was born (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobagos). He settled in England and stayed put there for the major part of his life. Compared to his background Britain was new found paradise for him. Ambitious, he studied English and was imbued in their culture. He wrote as if Britain was more than his birth land. He was awarded Nobel Prize as a British, a European. From his perspective he was not only indebted but deeply moved to love that country and continent. His name and fame spread from there. India had nothing to do about it except his Indian origin background taking the clue from his ancestors. He had some tilt towards India nothing of it remained when India was compared to Britan or Europe. He was obliged to see the world through their spectacles. His ideas and favour for Britain and Europe was generated by his position and interest in life.
