Therefore, horse owners would benefit from a suitable and effective treatment that results in the early recovery of their horses. Dermal suctioning significantly improves chronic lower back pain in humans. Thus, if a similar effect were to be found in racehorses, it could become a new treatment for back pain in horses. In this study, we examined the acute effects of dermal suctioning on back pain in racehorses. Twelve Thoroughbred racehorses with back pain underwent 10 min of dermal suctioning in the thoracolumbar region. The pain score, mechanical nociceptive threshold (MNT), heart rate variability (HRV), and plasma cortisol concentrations were measured. Results showed that pain scores were significantly improved immediately after dermal suctioning (P=0.028), while MNT, HRV, and plasma cortisol concentrations did not show significant changes (P>0.05). The aim of present study was to evaluate the impact of talk test based aerobic exercise on glycaemic control and anthropometric measures among adults with (T2DM). In this double blind randomised controlled trial (RCT), aerobic exercises/walking was used as intervention. The patients were divided into three groups based on the tool of exercise intensity prescription: a talk test-based group (TTG, n=30), a rating of perceived exertion-based group (RPEG, n=30), and a control group (CG, n=30). Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) was evaluated at baseline and after 8 weeks. Anthropometric measures, i.e. body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) were evaluated at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks. Wilcoxon rank-sum/repeated measure of ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test/ANOVA were used for within and between group comparison, respectively, on the basis of normality of the data. The mean HbA1c change in TTG, RPEG, and CG was -0.29, -0.28, and -0.04, respectively, and it was significantly greater in TTG and RPEG as compared to CG. The reduction of HbA1c, BMI, and WC was reported in each group. However, the reduction in the experimental groups, i.e. TTG and RPEG was significantly greater than in the control group (P≤0.01). However, there was no significant difference found between the experimental groups (P>0.05). TT based aerobic exercise is effective in improving glycaemic control and anthropometric measures. Therefore, TT can be used for the exercise prescription of these patients. The study is registered at the Clinical Trial Registry-India under no. Therefore, 10 patients were submitted to the program (endurance and strength exercises in the same session, 60 min of duration, three times a week) and blood samples were collected before, 30 days and 180 days after the intervention started. Exercise training reduced the body mass index and body mass after 180 days of the intervention. A significant decrease on HDAC2 activity was found 180 days after intervention compared to before the intervention. The cortisol levels remained unchanged in any evaluated time-points. In order to investigate whether exercise and/or curcumin induce LTP and increase neurons in the hippocampus of unilateral labyrinthectomy male rats, after undergoing labyrinthectomy, animals were subjected to treadmill exercises after the intraperitoneal injection of curcumin five days per week, for 30 days. An increase of LTP and neuron count of the hippocampus was observed in unilateral labyrinthectomy rats. Interestingly the combination of exercise and curcumin did not enhance LTP in unilateral labyrinthectomy rats. These changes lead to psychological, somatic, urogenital and vasomotor symptoms that influence the quality of life of women. Studies have shown that physical exercise can benefit women in the pre- and postmenopausal stages. However, the physiological benefits of exercise during the menopausal period have been less explored, as well as which type of exercise is most recommended at this stage of life. Therefore, the present review aimed to investigate the physiological changes promoted by the practice of physical exercise during the menopause period. A search for scientific articles was performed in the PubMed database using the descriptors ‘menopause’ and ‘exercise’ and the ‘AND’ connector. The period selected for this study was from 2014 to 2018. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five articles were selected. As a result, studies suggest that physical exercise promotes hormones, body composition and positive cardiovascular changes, decreases menopausal symptoms and improves psychosocial health. Young","doi":"10.3920/cep210047","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3920/cep210047","url":null,"abstract":"This study investigated whether the modifications made to Grand National (GN) fences at Aintree, Liverpool, UK in 2012 following the Review of Safety and Welfare commissioned by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), reduced the number and severity of ridden horse falls. The study also investigated whether the number of fences in a race and the total starters were positively linked to falls, and whether horse and jockey experience had any bearing. Videos of 36 races run between 2008 and 2016 recording all horse falls were retrospectively reviewed. Eighteen of the races were run prior to the 2012 changes made to the fences and 18 after the modifications. Falls were graded using a pre-determined severity scale, and previous experience of jumping GN fences. The severity scale was developed by the authors based on the literature and their perception of the degree of injury caused to the rider. The number of falls pre- and post-GN fence modification were adjusted to generalised linear models using the number of falls and severity of falls as dependent variables. A significant decrease in fallers was seen (P<0.001) after changes were made to the GN fences, together with a reduction in the probability of all levels of severity of fall. The severity scores decreased with increasing number of fences (P<0.001). When there were more starters in a race, a greater probability of horse falls was observed (P<0.001). No positive association between horse’s experience of jumping GN fences and horse falls, or jockey licence and horse falls was found (P>0.05). This study revealed that by implementing the changes recommended by the BHA, which included modifying the GN fences, the number and severity of ridden horse falls decreased. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the reliability estimating it in the axillary view and in measuring the shoulder joint space width (JSW). True AP view images (n=36) of subjects with adhesive capsulitis were taken in supine in multiple arm abduction positions. The axillary view images (n=48) were taken in supine and prone in 75° of abduction. The HHP was assessed in the glenoid reference frame. The position and radius of the humeral head along with the superior, inferior, anterior, posterior, and middle JSWs were measured in each image. All the images were coded and randomly presented twice to a physiotherapist at a gap of 48-72 h for intra-rater reliability and to 2 therapists and an orthopaedic surgeon for inter-rater reliability. Reliability was expressed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM). In both the views, inter-rater, and intra-rater reliability was excellent for the radius of the humeral head (inter-rater – 0.95-0.97 and intra-rater -0.98)], moderate (ICC: 0.70 and 0.76), and excellent (ICC: 0.89 and 0.93) for HHP. The reliability for JSWs was moderate to good (ICC: 0.66-0.82) for inter-rater and good to excellent (ICC: 0.75-0.95) for intra-rater analysis. The SEM for HHP and JSWs were <0.4 mm for intra-rater analysis, and <0.7 mm for inter-rater reliability in both views. The study demonstrated that the glenohumeral arthrokinematic parameters can be measured with good to excellent levels of reliability when using 2 D fluoroscopy. Ballistic six plyometric training improves throwing activity in throwing sports, improves rotator cuff muscular strength, and prevents and reduces the risk of shoulder injury associated with overhead pitching. Kinesiotaping is used in rehabilitation, as a treatment for sportsrelated injuries, and as a means of injury prevention. The objective of the study was to compare the combined effect of kinesiotaping with ‘ballistic six plyometric training’ and with ballistic six plyometric training alone on speed, accuracy, target and joint proprioception in fast bowlers with mild glenohumeral joint instability. Thirty male semiprofessional fast bowlers in the age group of 20-30 years were included in this study and randomly divided into two groups: group A and group B with 15 players in each group. Group A received kinesiotaping along with ballistic six plyometric training, whereas group B was only given ballistic six plyometric training. Both groups also performed conventional upper extremity workouts. All players were evaluated for bowling speed, accuracy, target and joint proprioception (internal rotation & external rotation) with a radar gun, cricket specific bowling accuracy test, no. of balls hit stump in an over and inclinometer, respectively. Both groups improved significantly at the end of week 8, however, group B showed significant difference for bowling speed, accuracy, target and joint proprioception (P<0.05). However, in order to take part in international competition, each horse and rider must qualify by completing rides under their national federation. The aim of this study was to analyse the competitive data and veterinary eliminations, specifically lameness, from competitions run by the British governing body of endurance: Endurance GB, during the 2019 competitive season. Competitive results for 765 ride starts from seven different ride venues were evaluated; 81.6% (n=624) horses successfully completed the rides, with the remaining 18.4% (n=141) failing to complete the ride. The majority of horses that were unsuccessful were eliminated for lameness at veterinary inspections (n=83; 58.9%). Horses competing in single loop rides (up to 55 km rides) had a success rate of 88.6% (n=624), in contrast, horses competing in rides of three loops or more (>80 km rides) reported a decreased success rate of 61.8% (n=81). Hindlimb lameness was identified more frequently (n=50; 60.2%) compared with forelimb lameness (n=33; 39.8%).
