It presents the development of welding processes using coated electrode, SMAW and as addition metal rods EAS 2-IG / ER 308L. This study is divided into two stages, the preparation of technical documentation and the development of methods and manufacturing processes used in the qualification of welding processes. A sequence was outlined based on real situations used by nuclear component manufacturing companies, meeting the physical and mechanical properties required by the nuclear classification standards and their regulations. The results showed that the welding processes were satisfactory, that the destructive and non-destructive tests showed that there was no discontinuity in the surface and defects in the volume of the welding and that, in the present study, safety in the project for the operation of a Nuclear Power Plant was demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126800681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dimensionless analyses can be applied in the study of flows to reduce geometric and experimental dependence and facilitate the modeling process and understanding of the main influence physical parameters; besides being used in creating models and prototypes. This work presents a methodology for dimensionless physical-mathematical modeling of natural convection turbulent flows over isothermal plates, located in an “infinite” open environment. A consolidated dimensionless physical-mathematical model was defined for the studied problem situation. The physical influence of the dimensionless numbers of Grashof, Prandtl, and Turbulent Prandtl was demonstrated. The use of the Theory of Dimensional Analysis and Similarity and its application as a tool and numerical device in the process of building and simplifying CFD simulations were discussed.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122122061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need of larger domestic wastewater treatment plants and proper disposal of its solid waste has attracted the scientific community to research about new technologies that will use those systems and waste as a way to generate energy. The moisture content of a fuel effects the combustion products and the energy released by the reaction.  Therefore, in order to make biomass to be a viable fuel option, the technological and scientific challenges of the drying process of wastewater sludge must be faced and overcome so the lowest moisture content level is achieved. Conventional drying processes as for example, direct and indirect thermal drying, are commonly used. However, other processes using renewable energy as for example solar drying are also being studied by the scientist around the world. Moisture content, physical-chemical properties as for example, heating values, composition, ash fusibility are all relevant properties taken into consideration when choosing a fuel for a specific application. The herein review is intended to present some existing domestic wastewater drying processes, alternative ways of improving the efficiency of those processes.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134355565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the study and definition of a numerical model, an ideal mesh configuration is the one that best represents physically, with minimal numerical influence and with the lowest computational cost, the problem addressed. The influence of two mesh configurations (non-uniform staggered and entirely uniform), at different refinement levels, was studied to evaluate natural convection heat transfer rates in flat plates of AR = 5; in isothermal conditions, in turbulent regime with the κ−ω SST RANS model and using free and open-source software OpenFOAM®. The physical-numerical methodology applied, and the numerical results obtained were validated from experimental results in the literature. The non-uniform staggered mesh configuration proved to be more adequate in precision, and computational cost to the problem situation studied. The entirely uniform mesh proved to be infeasible due to the high number of elements and computational cost demanded.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115726969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of these engines can be enhanced by cooling and dehumidifying the inlet air on turbocharger upstream under safe operation conditions through a cooling coil heat exchanger, hence, increasing the power output as well as reducing the brake specific fuel consumption and pollutant specific emissions. Analysis have been performed in the GT-POWER software through a 1-D thermodynamic modelling of the Wärtsilä W20V34SG engine, making it possible to verify the influence of cooled and dehumidified ambient air, considering a temperature range from 9.5°C (282.7 K) to 15.5°C (288.7 K), while keeping 1 bar for pressure and relative humidity of 100%. Furthermore, the brake mean effective pressure (BMEP) has been set from 20 to 23.45 bar with a step of 1.15 bar. Such simulations are aimed to find the maximum air temperature at the cooling coil outlet in which the average of maximum cylinder pressures does not exceed the safety limit pressure of 186 bar while maintaining control on the wastegate valve. As a result, it was possible to evaluate that the maximum temperature to be chosen, under the conditions already mentioned, should be lower than 13.8°C (287 K).","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126021679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important point is related to the analysis of the inverse problem as a method of estimating parameters and selecting models. In view of this, this work aims to apply the Monte Carlo method via Markov Chains (MCMC) as a technique for solving the inverse problem of estimating fixed-bed adsorption parameters using analytical models proposed in the literature. In addition, this work aims to select the best model through the statistical metrics Akaike, corrected Akaike and Bayesian Information Criterion. The use of the Bayesian approach allowed the analysis of the convergence of the chains, as well as selected the best model to represent the experimental data obtained from the literature. ","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133958299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of cascade system refrigeration using natural refrigerant fluids for ultra-low temperatures. These fluids are environmentally friendly refrigerant and are an alternative to hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and to hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Energy and exergy analyses were performed using a thermodynamic model based on the law of conservation of mass and also on the first and second laws of thermodynamics. A simulator was developed to assess the technical practicability of this system, considering it running as a real refrigeration cycle. Natural fluids have best performance energetically and environmentally.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127648290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, exergy or monetary costs of the external resources are distributed to the final products. Exergy is the thermodynamic magnitude used in thermoeconomics and the physical exergy disaggregation has been introduced in thermoeconomics as alternatives for the isolation of the dissipative components and residues allocation. For plants with dissipative equipment, such as condenser or valve, the productive diagram, based on total exergy (E Model), need to merge this dissipative equipment with other productive components. In order to isolate the condenser, the productive diagram must use, at least, the H&S Model and to isolate the valve, the UFS Model has to be considered.Both disaggregation models greatly increase the thermoeconomic modeling complexity. Bearing this in mind, this work aims to evaluate the advantages of combining the E Model with these other models in order to adequately isolate the dissipative equipment. The plants studied herein are two different steam turbine cogeneration systems, with dissipative components (condenser or valve). The different monetary and exergy unit costs obtained for the two final products of each plant are compared and analyzed.  The results show that localized physical exergy disaggregation for dissipative component isolation in thermoeconomics is feasible, since it reduces the complexity of the productive structure and is also consistent from the point of view of thermodynamics.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115285142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In countries known for its renewable sources, such as Brazil, the percentage is close to 38%. The importance to study Stirling engines and propose a prototype is that they are a feasible alternative for generation of power and electricity when considering low quality sources such as solar and waste energy. This paper will compare two different approaches of the volume variation, sinusoidal and kinematic, using an isothermal model that represents the Stirling engines. The comparison is made for an a type engine. Such approaches are capable of representing an estimative of work and power output for Stirling engines since the difference of results for these approaches are 8.07% for power output. As both approaches are a valid choice for analyzing the Stirling engine cycle, the availability of the data determines which approach is the most suitable for characterizing the engine performance.","PeriodicalId":106768,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Engenharia Térmica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115081454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
