Research indicates multiple benefits of placing students with ASD in the general education/inclusion classroom, however, there are a variety of components that must be in place for this to be successful. Students with ASD experience delays in their social and communication skills. The inclusive classroom provides opportunities to develop these skills with their non-disabled peers. Despite progress that has been made in the education system, there are still barriers in place that must be considered and addressed. There are a variety of models and strategies that have been developed.
