The underlying modelling approach enables the simultaneous cross-border exchange of power and inertia-dependent frequency response services through the interconnector. Two main operational paradigms are adopted. The first considers the interconnectors as centrally-operated assets; the latter envisages them as profit-seeking private entities. Furthermore, the proposed work adopts a sampling-based method to assess the impact of wind and demand variability on the short-term operation of the interconnectors, evaluating the sensitivities of relevant operational and economical metrics with respect to wind availability and demand levels. A comprehensive set of case studies is developed considering the Great Britain (GB)-France interconnected systems. The studies show significant value for interconnectors under a wide range of system conditions.","PeriodicalId":106388,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON)","volume":"255 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131699094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new mathematical formula, determined by the values of transient voltage stability estimation (TVSE), allows estimating the transient state and assessing the transient structures of the power systems concerning the transient voltage stability. The oscillations of the generator’s angular velocities, varying in time and causing the power network’s non-linearity in transient configurations of the power system under the condition of the single-shot automatic line reclosing, are mathematically simulated. The transient parameters, such as the synchronous, asynchronous, damping torques, angles of transient electromotive forces, are simulated under the impact of automatic voltage and frequency regulation. The transient voltage stability estimation values are determined to assess the transient structures influenced by the continuous disturbance of angular velocities of the generators operating in the multi-machine power system. The typical examples and results prove the advantages of the new algorithm features for analyzing the multiple contingencies with the ALR in multi-machine power systems.","PeriodicalId":106388,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129421152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea behind the CVPP is to aggregate loads in order to obtain contractual benefits, acquiring long-term contracts at lowest prices and taking advantage of the complementary nature of the load profiles when settling the differences between consumption and contracts. The model, called Portfolio optimization System (POS) – in Portuguese, “Sistema de Otimização de Portfólio” (SOP) –, is based on Mixed-integer Linear Programming (MILP) and aims to maximize profit, considering a certain level of risk, represented by the Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR). In this paper the motivation behind the model and its potential market value as a tool for portfolio management, especially for energy retailers, are presented. With the Brazilian Energy Market business rules defined, a case study is proposed in order to compare optimized long-term contracting and short-term contracting without any optimization. The profit resulting from the use of the tool is valued at 31% in this case study.","PeriodicalId":106388,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129799819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This leads to balancing challenges of demand and supply which can be addressed with smart grids or even smart city concepts. Demand side management control strategies for flexibility harvesting often include energy storage systems, like flywheel- (FESS) and battery (BESS) storages. To investigate different control strategies for a hybrid energy storage system with a flywheel and battery storage in an islanded microgrid, an existing flywheel is modernized with state-of-the-art components to support real time power hardware in the loop simulations. Testing a load levelling control strategy with this test bench showed that the cyclic lifetime of the battery storage system could be increased with peak shaving due to a reduced amount of charging and discharging operations. An excessive energy buffering control method could increase the islanded operation time by using nearly 10% of the otherwise lost energy. However, these results with the testbench showed limited use for research with the current setup due to low capacity and high self-discharge rate of the existing FESS. But due to the MATLAB-based programming interface, it is perfectly suitable as an educational setup for the demonstration of possible implementations of the European Green Deal.","PeriodicalId":106388,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129478773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper analyzes the problem of long-term voltage instability and presenting possible countermeasures. The study summarizes essential aspects for modelling, including LTC, DERs, and especially voltage dependent load. A coordination between DERs and LTC is proposed to allocate better power supply, especially at the coupling points between transmission and distribution networks, i.e. primary substation. A case study is performed using a modified CIGRE medium-voltage benchmark network. The simulation results have shown that the coordination has substantially improved the long-term voltage stability in the way of using the reactive power support from DERs and increasing the LTC position instated of decreasing as the traditional method.","PeriodicalId":106388,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 7th International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116171053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
