The technique is utilized to develop devices like half adder, half subtractor and full adder for all optical computation. The working of these devices is based on simply difference frequency generation in nonlinear materials. According to the obtained results for the laser output energy, we found that: (i) the laser output energy has a step by step behavior. (ii) In any step, the output energy has approximately constant value. (iii) The highest output energy is obtained from lowest initial transmission in this work. (iv) As the initial transmission decreases, the laser output energy increases. We deduced to increase the single pulse energy, a Q-switch with lower initial transmission should be used. So real time operation based on this proposed encoding may be achieved. Hence to count the optical pulse, one requires an all-optical counter for very fast counting. In this communication, the authors propose a new scheme for developing an all-optical synchronous counter. Synchronous counter can show faster speed than that of a ripple counter in conventional electronic system. The proposed counter part of electronic synchronization is expected faster speed of operation, as optics has been used here as an information carrying signal in place of electronics. Its physical model is presented based on standard semiconductor equations. In this device, recombination of carriers is ignored due to its operation in depletion region and high electric field strength (E > 1 × 104V/m). Numerical calculation indicates that LPIN PD-GTE has high sensitivity and SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio). The velocity of the soliton is also obtained in terms of these coefficients. A giant field resonance at the transmission peak frequency closest to this band edge has been verified by rigorous numerical calculation and is supported by experimental evidence. Xu","doi":"10.1142/S1793528812500013","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1142/S1793528812500013","url":null,"abstract":"The authors report on the dissipative soliton operation of a diode pumped Yb3+:Sc2SiO5 (Yb:SSO) laser in the vicinity of the zero group velocity dispersion (GVD). It is found that the soliton shaping in the laser is dominated by the third-order dispersion (TOD) of the cavity as reflected by the appearance of an asymmetrical spectral sideband in the soliton spectrum. Soliton pulses as short as 93 fs have been obtained in the laser.
