There is, however, a need to tackle with services mismatching, to guarantee successful interaction between services, which is resulted from their non-compatible interfaces, protocols or behaviors. The work presented in this paper is concerned with modeling grid service behavior with pi-calculus and further establishing its interaction pattern, based on which some typical grid service contexts are defined and exemplified by application cases. Depending on the theoretical analysis, Pi-calculus based grid service composition verification algorithm, PGSCV, is proposed for verifying the grid service composition and proved available and efficient by experimental results. As a conclusion the future research work is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121079156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be used to enhance the efficiency and the reliability of grid systems, such as to balance load distribution, to enable fault resilience, to improve system administration, and to minimize communication overhead. Most existing schemes apply fixed object migration strategies, which are unadaptable to changing requirements of applications. In this paper,we address the issue of object migration for large scale grid system with multiple object levels.First, we devise a probabilistic object tree model and formulate the object migration problem as an optimization problem. Then we proposed an adaptive object migration algorithm called ADOM to solve the problem. the ADOM algorithm applies the breadth first search scheme to traversal the object tree and migrates object adaptively according to their access probability. Finally we evaluate the performance of different object migration algorithms in our grid platform, which show that the ADOM algorithm outperforms other algorithms under large object tree size.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129023672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scale-free networks generated by the preferential attachment (PA) model have been widely described in previous researches. However, the PA model is incomplete to account for the robustness of real network. In this paper, the HLD and HHD models of scale-free overlay structures for unstructured peer-to-peer networks are proposed. With the identical degree distribution and network size in the models, we discuss the structural robustness and fragility as well as the dynamic changes of load intensity when nodes are successively removed under various attack strategies. Experimental results show that these two models are better than PA model in robustness and load-intensity.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130515039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, we encapsulated the metadata extracting algorithms and metadata retrieving algorithms into grid services, which can be called on the Web with SOAP messages; secondly, a grid service registry that enables the resource providers to publish their grid services was established; thirdly, we proposed an agent service to discover, bind and invoke the grid services dynamically according to the service interface and WSDL address. Based on the grid service registry and the agent service, user queries can be transmitted to all resource providers, and the query results will be aggregated by agent service before returned to users. We have developed a prototype system using the above approach, which can integrate the optical and microwave images from two different organizations efficiently.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128237687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It makes demands of effectively improving the performance without damaging availability to the replication algorithms. Aim for improving the performance of the active replication algorithm, we propose a new replication algorithm named AAR (adaptive active replication). Its basic idea is: all replicas receive requests, but only the fastest one returns the response. Its main advantages are: (1) The response is returned by the fastest replica; (2) The algorithm is based on the active replication algorithm, but it avoids the redundant nested invocation problem. We prove the advantages by analyzing and experiments.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125091433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

NPB Benchmark, a widely used benchmark for benchmarking the scientific computing platforms, is used as the typical workload of message passing programs. The experiments are performed on two types of virtualization platforms, hardware supported virtualization and para-virtualization. In an ideal market, the price is a reflection of the current state of the market, and therefore it should be dynamic. From the seller perspective, using an effective dynamic pricing strategy can make a difference between making a profit or loss in a market. In a grid marketplace, the strategy is even more important given it is very dynamic and volatile nature. In this paper, we describe and review three different pricing strategies for the grid market: demand-response, revenue-response and price-maximizing strategy, and analyze their behavior in different market conditions using simulation approach. Our results show that two of the strategies are able to generate high revenue in various market conditions.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129188648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An emerging solution is grid technology, which allows organization to make better use of existing computing resources by providing them with a single, transparent, aggregated source of computing power. New generation of grid infrastructure, where Web services are building blocks, allow management of a Web services workflow. In this paper, a novel strategy - QoS-aware and fault-tolerant workflow composition - has been applied to utilize Web services and business process execution language for overcoming the issues about task assignment, security, flexibility and workflow management. This new strategy is lightweight Web services based computing power-sharing architecture, and it is not only suitable for executing computing works which are able to run in batches, but also be able to solve current issues in Web services based computing application such as system resilience, fault tolerance, efficiency of job scheduling and the instability in congested network environment.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"250 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128631041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
