Therefore, the collaboration and cooperation can be technically challenged by the need of users who want to control and manage various services, running on different platforms. In this paper we brought forward a design of the architecture of geospatial information collaborative service in spatial data grid. The WSRF-based services in the architecture provide a transparent way to select the appropriate spatial data service providers in a dynamic spatial data grid and hide the complexity of the interface and scheduling strategy from users to coordinate those required services to perform guarantees and lead to better spatial resource sharing and significant service performance.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130153373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a serious problem about duplicated establishment of MODIS data receive station in China, and it has brought a tremendous waste of money. Utilizing data grid technology could take advantages to integrate and share heterogeneous and distributed MODIS data sources. This paper presents research work on building MODIS data management and distribution system based on Spatial Information Grid (SIG). We studied and implemented a three-layer structure for data interoperation, and designed the extensible XML-based spatial data access language to support heterogeneous data integration and cross-border data computation. Furthermore, we developed the MODIS data catalogue service to facilitate users and improve system performance. The research helps to release conflict between duplicated establishment of MODIS receiving station and less effectively data sharing, and enables researcher to focus on science, not on problems of data location, computing ability and data management.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133341837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of stream-media service provided by the Internet based on TCP/IP protocol is always changing with the variation of network and is easily affected by the network parameters. During the developing of stream media, service performance Measurement is very important. This paper proposes parameter definitions to measure performance, from a user perspective, of stream-media, develops an appropriate measurement tool based on active measurement technology that focus on these agreed upon list of parameters, and builds a stream-media service performance test bed that allows us to systematically vary network characteristics. Then we analyze the service performance behavior under various streaming configuration and network conditions. While there has been research done in video measurement and characterization using custom tools, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no performance measurement studies where the researchers had control of the popular stream-media server, content parameters and network conditions between client and server.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125886713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traditional high availability approaches towards general-purpose transaction applications are usually not efficient or economical enough to store these high-rate insertion-only archived stream data. This paper proposes RAIDB5 (Redundant Array of Independent DataBases level 5) to store and manage these archived streams. We design the read-optimized and write-optimized algorithms which is distinct from the read-optimized ones in RAID5. These algorithms significantly improve the performance of write operations via classifying the data files of databases into live and history files. Based on a Markov model, we compare the performance, availability and cost of RAIDB5 with other traditional database backup modes. The analysis results show that RAIDB5 has better performance at the same cost and has the better performability and lower cost at the same system scale than the classical double replication mode.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"206 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124621988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to random arrival of tasks and their random CPU service time requirements, there is good possibility that several workstations are heavily loaded, while others are idle or lightly loaded. Many load sharing/balancing algorithms mainly target sharing CPU resources, and have been intensively evaluated in a homogeneous environment. The main purpose of our algorithm is to improve the overall response time of the distributed system with minimum network traffic over heterogeneous workstations. This algorithm tries to keep the load difference between any two nodes within specified thresholds, and shares CPU, Memory and IO (thus named IOCM_LB) resources with the best effort. Theoretical analysis and experimental evaluation demonstrate that compared with existing approaches, proposed algorithm can reduce the mean slow down and network traffic.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127253217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are a variety of existing grid middleware systems which support operation of grid infrastructures, including CNGrid GOS, EGEE gLite, Globus Toolkit, and OSG Condor etc. These grid infrastructures focus on encapsulating underlying computing and storage resources and providing necessary basic services such as batch job service, information service, scheduling service, and cross-domain security, etc. Some other features such as fault-tolerance, massive concurrency support are vital to the success of real applications, especially complex and long running applications. These features have not been the focus point of the current grid systems. DDGrid, a key project supported by CNGrid (China National Grid), is aiming at establishing a grid computing environment that can utilize computing resources scattered over the Internet to carry out virtual-screening operations which requires computing power that a single institute or company can't afford. In our design and implementation of DDGrid, we propose a master/worker mode which effectively utilizes computing resources that the underlying grid infrastructure provides and tries to provide additional features of fault-tolerance and massive concurrency support that are essential to the real applications.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129975274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional methods for priority ranking which only calculates static priorities of requirements can not meet the need of networked software due to the individualized requirements characteristics of networked software. According to the features of networked software, four factors need to be considered in ranking requirements priority, that is, the type of requirements, the role who proposes requirements , the frequency of requirements proposed and the time of requirements proposed; and then an algorithm for ranking priority of individualized functional requirements is proposed, which can calculate priorities of all requirements dynamically when every new requirement is proposed. In addition, an example is given to verify the feasibility and rationality of this algorithm.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129204297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a metadata management system with matrix organization, non-overhead reliable mechanism and static scalability method, which is design to efficiently utilize large memory and provide high performance. We examine and demonstrate the performance, overhead of reliability and scalability in a test bed environment of 28 machines. This paper proposes an efficient divide-and-conquer approach for service selection based on a high-level abstract model for service composition. The service composition model is recursively defined with (1) abstract control-flows of five general constructs (\"Sequence\", \"Switch\", \"While\", \"Flow\", and \"Pick\"), and (2) extended data-flows with constructs of \"AND\" and \"OR\". Based on this service composition model, a QoS model, which supports non-linear QoS aggregation, is proposed. Therefore, complex control-flows are handled in an integrated way without separating and merging multiple execution paths, and interface constraints are captured in form of data-flow declaration. This approach allows to divide the original service to several smaller services, which are then solved separately by a recursive branch-and-bound algorithm Experiments show that the proposed approach is efficient and scalable for runtime service selection, and better handles complicated structure of service composition than existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":105165,"journal":{"name":"2008 Seventh International Conference on Grid and Cooperative Computing","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125580016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
