This perception in modern society includes in its dormitories the historical evolution and retrospect of technology whose origins are pervasive in the realization of social impulses. Nostalgia and memories are no longer moved only through traditional ruins that reflect the aesthetics and sense of social development. In this context, it is important to examine whether video games nowadays can classify the early technological structures into the cradle of modern ruins, the evolutionary course of social memory. This article scrutinizes the multi-dimensional aspects of video games, approaching them as historical and technological achievements and identifying their aesthetic value as objects of the recent past that further stimulate quests lurking in this pixelated romanticism.","PeriodicalId":103857,"journal":{"name":"Design/Arts/Culture","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133764063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kourniatis","doi":"10.12681/DAC.25909","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.12681/DAC.25909","url":null,"abstract":"This paper attempts to give an interpretation of the importance of the role of geometry and in particular the courses of perspective in the formation of the perception of space, in the architectural education. A role that seems to focus both on understanding methods of handling space and its objects, as well as on redefining the real-imaginary relationship; physical – virtual, collective - subjective. This inquiry begins with the axioms of Euclid's Optics, from the period of Girard Desargues to the modern era, placing three different phases in the evolution of the formation of the perception of space, through the sense of vision. In the last part of the work, an application of perspective image remodeling is presented, through mirrors that are placed in an existing space. (fig.1) Geometry plays a dual role in the educational process of architects. On the one hand it aims to interpret the association between the different elements of space by frequently questioning established stimulus-response relations. The pattern of geometric thinking starts with observation and through analysis and questioning - which is a stage defined by its intense illusory nature; it ends up formulating rules and eventually leads to new interpretations of disciplines and relationships that are already known.","PeriodicalId":103857,"journal":{"name":"Design/Arts/Culture","volume":"20 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132531870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each ruin has its testimonies, traces, findings, photographic evidence, and more. All these unfold before us its history. The research along with the photographic material, compile the narration of the ruin. The main purpose its recognition in the world. Initially, the research site is located in the wider landscape of Lake Kaiaphas in the Gulf of Kyparissia. The events that contributed to the abandonment are recorded. The ruin of Kazarma on Kaiapha beach, in Ilia, is chosen as the main focus of the research. Then, are analyzed the aspects related with the meaning of the ruin and its value through the borrowing of its traces in the area. The photographic material is proposed as a methodology for understanding the ruins, so we can compose a narrative. Finally, as a result of the above, is presented the progression of the research, revealing facts and findings which… have a story to tell.","PeriodicalId":103857,"journal":{"name":"Design/Arts/Culture","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126973888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is meaningful to recognize how graphic design elements have invariably been a part of cinema’s hybrid language, as a material of expression manifested through the visual channel together with the filmed image. The different technological milestones that shaped cinema’s development also directly influenced the use of graphic language in movies, which became more complex with time. These graphic elements are present throughout an entire film narrative, from the choice of verbal, pictorial and schematic elements in titles and animations, to the creation (and curation) of printed or handmade graphic props, signage and logos filmed by the camera. Together, they form a movie’s graphic identity, which helps to convey meaning to the narrative as well as to bring a more dynamic and authentic storytelling. Through a case study of Hollywood’s 2013 movie adaptation of the literary masterpiece The Great Gatsby, this paper intends on exemplifying the strategic use of graphic design elements throughout the movie – in the physical and virtual formal natures – aiding in the construction of characters’ identities, contextualized into the roaring 1920’s aesthetics, as well as defining a clear visual style that is consistent with director Baz Luhrmann’s unique vision for the movie. In this way, the objective is to bring awareness to the potential of graphic design in building cinematic worlds that are historically accurate, aesthetically rich, and emotionally identifiable.","PeriodicalId":103857,"journal":{"name":"Design/Arts/Culture","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128705575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Like all abandoned industrial relics in the area, the two listed buildings manifest strong ties with the industrial past of Eleusina and the collective memory of its inhabitants.
