These parameters can be estimated using the data registered by WAMS during contingencies in the power system. A method of the load model parameters estimation based on the system state analysis is proposed in this paper. Parameters of various types of load models can be estimated and an information on the type and structure of load is not necessarily needed. Correctness of obtained load models parameters is checked using the physical power system simulator and EUROSTAG digital models. The estimated load model parameters provide the better quality for digital power systems models than type-parameters.","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131854840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simplified thermal network based on electrical analogy was developed to replicate building thermal dynamics and model residential heat demand. The study employs data driven blackbox modelling based on the measured indoor and outdoor temperature. To validate the proposed method, virtual and physical experiments were conducted and performance of the simplified thermal network model was compared to two more complex RC models and measurements in an existing building. The simplified model was able to replicate the thermal dynamics of the complex models and the building with a high accuracy at the same conditions under which model parameters were estimated implying that for accurate modelling a large amount of experimental data obtained under various conditions is required. Such data will be gathered in the upcoming studies from 50 buildings in Latvia. The obtained data will then be used to model the aggregate heating demand at a national scale for assessment of the impact of smart electric thermal storage appliances on the overall power system.","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130888080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By tradition, the target of the demand side response is to shift the loads from high price or peak-load periods to low price or low consumption periods. The economic effect is derived from reduced energy purchasing costs. This paper focuses on the possibility to provide demand side response for a wind park through direct cooperation by means of reduced production forecast errors. These errors are costly, as in open electricity market, overproduction is usually sold at a lower price and in underproduction it is required to purchase balancing energy from an electricity market. Forecasting errors always occur, as a forecast consists of wind speed predictions and does not take into account unexpected stops. Demand side response will reduce the imbalance between forecasted and actual production in wind parks. Direct cooperation between a response provider and a wind park is complex, as the forecast errors will define the need for the demand side response. For that reason, it is required to analyze wind park forecast errors in order to define the requirements for the demand side response capacity and an energy storage size. On the other hand, the solution proposed in this paper has benefits, as a demand side response provider does not need to participate in energy market. From that fact electricity market requirements are not applicable, as an example there is no need to have certain capacity available to participate in market.","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121865497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A fuzzy logic observer with self-tuning universe of discourse is described and experimentally verified on laboratory gantry and tower crane hardware-in-the-loop systems. An anti-swing performance for various load masses is provided. The offered approach guarantees the control precision and reliability and proves to be less dependable on human experts thus eliminating one of the most time-consuming and expensive parts of the crane control system.","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132006411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high penetration of WFs causes complicated impacts on power flows and voltages. Therefore, WFs have to operate bus voltages of the sub-transmission grid continuously within a permissible range. Furthermore, WFs should transfer required amount of reactive power into transmission grid and/or absorb the necessary amount of reactive power in the sub-transmission considering the demand of transmission system operators (TSOs). In other words, reactive power requirements at connection points (CPs) where sub-transmission grids are connected to the transmission grids should be satisfied. Therefore, this paper presents a comparative analysis for reactive power management by WFs in subtransmission grids using both a novel linear programming (LP) approach based on voltage sensitivity and particle swarm optimization (PSO).","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121037033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Provided that the distribution of electricity and heat infrastructure already exists, cogeneration plant (CHP) costs depend mainly on the investment, biomass distribution density and price as well as biomass transportation cost. On sufficiently large space it is possible to operate with the average values of biomass density. The cost of transportation depends on the size of biomass collection territory, which monotonically increases with collection territory growth. The benefit index - ratio of CHP income to expanses - is the maximum at some optimum value of the territory. Proposed model of transportation cost allows optimizing the size of territory feeding the cogeneration plant with biomass.","PeriodicalId":102691,"journal":{"name":"2016 57th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115141661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
