Eight different promising potato genotypes [1. PRP-056267.9 2. PRP-85861.11 3. CIP-394311.112 4. PRP-136368.1 5. PRP-22627.1 6. PRP-296668.1 7. Janakdev (standard check) and 8. Ilam local (Bite)] received from National Potato Research Program (NPRP), Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal were included in the study. Experiment was conducted in previously red ant infected potato field in Completely Randomized Block Design with three replications. The experimental plot size was 5.4 m2 (3m x 1.8m) where planting tubers was done at 60 cm row to row and 25 cm plants to plant spacing. Fertilizers of NPK were applied at the rate of 100:100:60 kg /ha and 20 t/ha compost. Well sprouted tubers with weight 30-40 g were planted during the second week of February.  Harvesting was done during the last week of July. Data on yield attributing traits, late blight disease, and number of red ant damaged tubers, red ant infested yield and healthy tuber yield were recorded. The standard check potato variety Janakdev (1.00 red ant score, 2.32 – 2.36 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.66 – 0. 71 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ), PRP-056267.9 (1.00 red ant score, 4.51 – 5.10 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.56 – 0. 67 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ) and PRP-85861.11 (1.00 red ant score, 4.55 – 5.47 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.76 – 0. 86 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ) were found tolerant to red ant infestation and produced the highest tuber yield (27.74 t/ha – 28.62 t /ha by Janakdev variety followed by 21.79 - 22.26 t/ha by PRP-056267.9  and 21.09 - 21.05 t/ha by PRP-85861.11 potato genotypes). Therefore, planting of Janakdev variety as well as PRP-056267.9 and PRP-85861.11 potato genotypes is appropriate for higher potato tuber yield and lower down red ant incidence at Jaubari area.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124413940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It causes 25-100% loss of horticultural crops by laying eggs under the skin of mangoes, peaches, guava, apricots and figs. Abiotic factors are ecological factors including temperature, humidity, and rainfall. These factors adversely affect the population dynamics of fruit fly larvae and pupae. Plants were randomly selected and installed with methyleugenol pheromone traps to study the population dynamics of Bactrocera dorsalis and correlate with abiotic factors. The fruits that had fallen were retrieved after a gap of 7-8 days. The contaminated fruit samples were exposed in the lab after a 9-10 days incubation period, and the larvae were counted. To ascertain the relationship between the larval and pupal populations of fruit flies in citrus, the one-way ANOVA technique was used. Bactrocera dorsalis larvae and pupae populations were the greatest at high temperatures and low humidity.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116625385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 5-months study was conducted in two tomato production basins, namely Tsinfou and Litieu. This study aims to reduce postharvest losses of tomato for contribute to increase income and standard of living of producers in the Menoua division. The postharvest technics adopted by producers, transporters and traders were identified through investigations and direct observations. The rate loss of tomato and its deterioration over a certain period of time were evaluated. Also, the type, nature and causes of these postharvest losses were determined. The results from this study show that, inappropriate post-harvest technics are practiced in all links of the supply chain. The average rate loss during harvest, transport, conservation is 7.50%, 6.50% and 35.50% respectively. They are caused by mechanical, biological and microbial actions, environmental and socio-economic factors. These losses reduce actor's incomes and the availability of tomatoes on the market, hence the inaccessibility for poor citizens.  Avoiding overloading and mixed transport of tomato crates with other products and using planks in lorry to overlap crates to minimize compression are two technics implemented by this study for reduce tomatoes postharvest losses. Establishment of affordable processing and conservation units, qualified workforce and maintaining a good state of roads should be adopted.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"156 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128764556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper assesses the acceptance of quality protein maize (QPM) among farmers in the Hai and Babati districts Tanzania. The study used a random sample of 120 smallholder maize farmers in four villages to collect information regarding the adoption of QPM in the study area. The study employed descriptive statistics to analyse the data collected. The results show that only 25% of the sampled farmers have adopted and are still using the technology. This outcome has a low adoption rate. The study recommends that the government ensure farmers use their inputs and outputs efficiently to achieve QPM. In addition, the government should promote and support QPM's promotion and dissemination activities in the country. Moreover, seed agents should ensure a sustainable supply and timely availability of seeds to farmers.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131747873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results have been obtained from cold storage of carnations and chrysanthemums confirmed the fact that the herbaceous cuttings could be stored for about two months at not lower than 0ºC and more than 4ºC, with similar results of the cuttings directly planted without storage. On the other hand, hardwood cuttings are stored at low temperature in order to improve rooting ability via reducing rooting inhibitors that occur in dormant cuttings which were taken during dormant seasons (late fall or early winter). So, declining in rooting inhibitors has been observed in the hardwood cuttings of deciduous trees and Vitis spp which were subjected to low temperature for around 2-6 months. Consequently, rooting was improved in these species. Also, cold storage of cuttings of some coniferous trees increased rooting at a high rate. Other factors like cultivar and storage method may interact with cold storage duration and temperature degree as well. This review article outlines the information of the studies that have been obtained as a result of cold storage of the cuttings of different species.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134013137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genotypes were received from International Potato Centre (CIP), Lima, Peru through National Potato Research Program (NPRP) and evaluated for two consecutive years 2017 and 2018 at Horticulture Research Station (HRS), Rajikot, Jumla, Nepal (2396 masl). Nine nutrient dense potato genotypes with two checks i.e. Desiree and Jumli Local in on-station trial were tested in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Fertilizer was used at the rate of 100:100:60 kg NPK/ha and 20 t/ha compost. Well sprouted tubers of seed size (25-50 g) were planted at a spacing of 60cm x 25cm. The effects of different genotypes were recorded for both vegetative as well as yield parameters. There is a significant difference among tested genotypes for vegetative (emergence percentage at 30 days after planting & 45 days after planting, uniformity, ground coverage, plant height, number of main stems) as well as yield parameters (total number of tubers and tuber yield per ha). The highest tuber yield (46.93 t/ha) was recorded from genotype T 304351.109 followed by genotype T 304368.46 (41.46 t/ha) and genotype T 302498.7 (32.69 t/ha) among the nutrient dense potato genotypes. Similarly, late blight scoring was minimum (score 1) in all these three genotypes. The results of both years showed that potato genotypes T 304351.109, T 304368.46 and T 302498.7 are promising for cultivation in high hills of Karnali province to combat the malnutrition as well as ensure nutritional security.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115971450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Use of nuclear techniques such as gamma ray induction in breeding for improved genetic variability is an effective approach in improvement of this important crop. Studies on genetic variability estimates of two Kenyan dolichos bean accessions were undertaken as the pre-requisites for selection of potential high yielding putative accessions for production. This study was conducted between May 2020 and October 2020 at biotechnology department, University of Eldoret research field, Kenya. 0gy, 300gy and 400gy mutant accessions of Eldo maridadi and Eldo black I respectively were raised in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data was collected either on plot basis or from randomly taken 3 plants on days to 50% flowering, leaf length, number of flower buds per race , raceme length (cm) , plant height (cm), number of nodes per raceme , pod length (cm), 100 seed weight (g), dry seed yield (g). The data collected for each quantitative trait was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) for simple lattice design. There was high PCV and GCV coupled with high heritability in, raceme length (cm), plant height (cm), number of nodes per raceme, pod length (cm), 100 seed weight (g), dry seed yield per plant (g) in Eldo black I accession traits than in Eldo maridadi .The different accession following mutation did exhibit difference in trend of genetic variability estimates. An indication of genotypic differences, response to mutation, lesser influence of environment in expression of the traits, prevalence of additive gene action in their inheritance and amenability of the traits to simple selection. Eldo maridadi accessions exhibited high to low heritability with low genotypic advance as percent of mean in evaluated traits thus direct selection on this traits may not beneficial. Other traits or further improvements on yield potentiality and yield traits on the accessions of this genotype are suggested by creating variation and selection.","PeriodicalId":102073,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Advances in Agricultural Research","volume":"437 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124254796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
