Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the presence of microgaps in the abutment/inner connection interface of cone morse dental implants. Materials and methods: Two groups of implants were analyzed. The first group (n = 16) employed single-manufacturer dental implants and abutments, whereas the second group (n = 16) combined multi-manufacturer materials. The sets were analyzed through scanning electron microscopy, wherein microgaps between the implant connection and the abutment were observed. Results: Group 1 had an average microgap of 5.69 μm (SD ± 8.46 μm). Group 2 had an average microgap of 1.24 μm (SD ± 0.44 μm). A significant difference was found between the two groups (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, results suggest that the group formed by multi-manufacturer implants and abutments (group 2) had smaller microgap values, and, therefore, a higher in vitro adaptation of components. \u0000DESCRIPTORS | Dental Implants; Dental Abutments; Scanning Electron Microscopy.","PeriodicalId":10204,"journal":{"name":"Clinical and Laboratorial Research in Dentistry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88283097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This report shows the case of a female patient without any clinical complaints who presented an evident opacification in her left maxillary sinus eroding the sinus wall, which was noticeable by means of panoramic radiograph, aside from maxillary sinus wall thinning and destruction, demonstrated through cone beam computed tomography examinations. The main diagnosis hypothesis was mucocele, as confirmed by the patient’s otolaryngologist. The characteristics of a high rate of cell proliferation, relapse and aggressive growth guide the choice of the type of surgical treatment for the lesion and, consequently, the prognosis. The use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for the differential diagnosis of odontogenic lesions does not replace anatomopathological examination, but the types of protocols already described illustrate the influence of these different protocols on the qualitative and quantitative description of keratocysts. We conclude that magnetic resonance imaging is valid as a tool to aid diagnosis of odontogenic lesions, especially for differential diagnosis studies between odontogenic keratocysts and ameloblastomas. The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is widely used in dentistry, allowing acquisition of images of the craniofacial region. Objective: to identify in CBCT exams the Haller´s cell relationship with the following conditions: sinus disease, bony nasal septum deviation, endodontic treatment and periapical lesions. Materials and methods: 99 CBCT exams were used, from which 51 were included in the research criteria. The images were analyzed in the Xelis Dental® software to identify the presence or absence of the Haller Cell, as well as the relationship with the mentioned conditions. Results: Among the 51 CFCT exams evaluated, 35.3% presented Haller´s Cell on the right side and 23.5% on the left side. Whereas the relationship of the Haller Cells with one or more alterations mentioned here, on the right side we had it in 72% of the cases, while on the left side such relationship was present in 75% of the cases. Conclusion: CBCT exams that present the infraorbital margin allow to verify the presence or absence of the Haller Cell. In this sample, we verified a greater presence of endodontic cases, bony nasal septum deviation and sinus disease cases in individuals who presented Haller Cells.","PeriodicalId":10204,"journal":{"name":"Clinical and Laboratorial Research in Dentistry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88748666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The images allow the detection of early stages of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, cases of joint ankylosis and is currently considered the most reliable exam for an objective and noninvasive assessment of intracapsular soft tissues. The objective of this literature review was to assess some of the temporomandibular joint changes in children using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The assessment of TMJs of children performed through MRI make the diagnosis more accurate and objective. Detecting alterations during the early stages of juvenile idiopathic arthritis using 3T MRI devices is possible utilizing contrast tools, which as a result, provides better prognosis and treatment.","PeriodicalId":10204,"journal":{"name":"Clinical and Laboratorial Research in Dentistry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85501278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to report the management of a severe traumatic dental injury in an 8-year-old female patient, victim of a motorcycle accident, who was taken to a pediatric dentistry clinic three months after the accident. After clinical and radiografic examination, we observed the avulsion of the permanent maxillary central incisors and of the permanent left lateral incisor, with considerable lingual interposition, interfering in speech and swallowing. The patient showed low risk of caries and good behavior during the appointments. However, she demonstrated to be embarrassed to smile. Besides the preventive treatment concerning caries, the treatment plan included immediate care and subsequent monitoring of the psychosocial reestablishment. For this purpose, an acrylic partial denture was made in order to replace the missing anterior teeth, maintaining the characteristics of the mixed dentition and preserving the aesthetics and the function. Follow-up appointments were performed one, three and six months after the first visit, aiming to monitor the adaptation of the prosthesis, as well as the growth and development of the child’s dentition. Thus, the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation was achieved regarding the patient’s satisfaction, enabling immediate social reinsertion.","PeriodicalId":10204,"journal":{"name":"Clinical and Laboratorial Research in Dentistry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74012866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
