A total of 284 wrist radiological reports were included in the study. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, clinical assessment, and demographic information were obtained for each of these 284 reports. Lunate morphology was dichotomized according to the Viegas classification, and the presence of various wrist pathologies was evaluated using MRI.

Results: The study sample consisted of 205 patients; 72.2% had a type I lunate and 27.8% had a type II lunate. Both Saudi citizens and residents were represented in the study population. Tendinopathy was the most identified pathology (89%), followed by ganglion cysts (42%), osteoarthritis (29%), ligament injury (28%), and fractures (17%). No significant association was found between lunate type and the distribution of the wrist pathologies (P = 0.510) or with the type of pathology (P = 0.595).

Conclusion: This study provides valuable insight into the association between lunate morphology and wrist disorders. Irregular pattern of intake of meals are known to be the most prevalent cause of GERD. Data on the study's methodology, participant characteristics, and outcomes related to the knowledge of PCa and attitudes towards PCa were extracted and analyzed using the comprehensive meta-analysis software. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used for quality assessment. The meta-analysis of 26 studies revealed significant heterogeneity among studies, with an overall rate of previous education on PCa at 76.3% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 61.2%- 86.8%), but a much lower rate of education on PCa screening at 20.5% (95% CI: 7.2%-46.2%). Knowledge of PCa, its screening tools, symptoms, risk factors, and treatments, as well as attitudes towards PCa screening, varied widely, with knowledge rates of 50.5% for PCa, 32.3% for screening tools, 45.5% for symptoms, 49.4% for risk factors, and 58.4% for treatments. Objective of present study was to determine factors that influence medical students' preferences for Family Medicine in Qatar.

Materials and methods: A study was conducted among medical students at one public university in Qatar from March 1, 2023, to March 15, 2023. Data collected using a structured, validated questionnaire; students participated in the study by filling an online questionnaire. Information sought included sociodemographic characteristics, medical specialty preferences, and the impact of 31 factors on these choices such as interest in dealing with diverse patient issues, and the influence of physician role models among others. Statistical analysis performed using SPSS version 26.0 Descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages, were used to summarize participant demographics and medical specialty preferences. Mann-Whitney U-test tested the difference in preference for family medicine specialty by various students' characteristics. Logistic regression analysis performed to identify factors related to preferring Family Medicine.

Results: A total of 262 students completed the survey with age ranging between 17-24 years (Mean=20, SD=1.7 years); majority (68.3%) were females and 54.4% were non-Qatari. About 16% students reported having a first degree relative or a family friend with family medicine specialty. Compared to surgery and internal medicine, a fewer students selected family medicine as their preferred specialty. Surgery was ranked as the top career choice (53.4%) followed by internal medicine (36.5%) and pediatrics (31.7%). Presence of a personal connection to a field seemed to have a significant impact on student preference. Being in the clerkship phase of medical education (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=2.18, 95% CI: 1.12-4.23, P = 0.022) and possessing a personal connection to Family Medicine (AOR= 3.46, 95% CI: 1.65-7.29, P = 0.001) significantly predicted the selection of Family Medicine between students' top two choices.

Conclusion: Clinical exposure and personal connections influence students' preference for family medicine specialty. Promoting these elements through targeted educational and mentorship programs may increase students' interest in Family Medicine and help to address the gap between student preferences and the greater need for primary care providers.
","PeriodicalId":101441,"journal":{"name":"Journal of family & community medicine","volume":"32 1","pages":"65-73"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11864363/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143525939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Greater awareness of AWP is needed since the vast majority of AWP cases are linked with cystic fibrosis (CF) and CF carrier state. Initial assessment of AWP cases can be done in a primary care setting. A comprehensive medical history and physical examination should be done upon the diagnosis of AWP with additional investigations based on patients' presentation. We report two cases of AWP diagnosed at a family medicine center in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The first case was related to the use of ibuprofen and discounting this medication led to a marked improvement in the patient's symptoms. The second case was related to primary palmar hyperhidrosis that was managed successfully with topical 20% aluminum chloride.
","PeriodicalId":101441,"journal":{"name":"Journal of family & community medicine","volume":"32 1","pages":"74-77"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11864362/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143525966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
