Methods This literature review was finally determined on searching PubMed, Elsevier, Web of science, China Journal Full-text Database (CNKI), WanFang Data and other Chinese and foreign databases and combined with manual search. The limit of the search time was from the date when the literature was recorded to 2019. A comprehensive collection of randomly controlled trials of muscle strength training on the walking ability of Parkinson's patients was done. Researchers used the Cochrance risk assessment tool to evaluate the methodological quality of the selected articles, and the ReMan 5.3.5 software to statistically process the obtained data. Results A total of 13 RCTs and 627 samples were included in this study. Meta-analysis of BBS balance scale show that MD=4.67 (95%CI, I2=97%, P=0.52) between muscle strength training group and non-exercise intervention group; MD=-2.67 between muscle strength training group and exercise intervention control group (95%CI, I2=7%, P<0.00001); TUGT Meta-analysis show that MD=-1.06 (95%CI, I2=75%, P=0.10) between muscle strength training group and non-exercise intervention group; MD=0.09 (95%CI, I2=0%, P=0.31) between the muscle strength training group and the control group with exercise intervention; 10MWT Meta-analysis show MD=-0.28 (95%CI), I2=98%, P<0.29) between the muscle strength training group and the control group with exercise intervention; Stride length Meta-analysis show MD=-1.85 (95%CI, I2=68%, P=0.63) between the muscle strength training group and the control group without exercise intervention; MD=-1.75 (95%CI, I2=32%, P=0.56) between the muscle strength training group and the control group with exercise intervention; MD=-1.75 (95%CI, I2=32%, P=0.56). Meta-analysis of stride speed show MD=-0.02 (95%CI, I2=0%, P=0.46) between muscle strength training group and control group without exercise intervention; MD=-0.03 (95%CI, I2=35%, P=0.52) between the muscle strength training group and control group with exercise intervention. Conclusion Muscle strength training can significantly improve the balance ability, mobility, and walking ability of Parkinson's disease patients, but it has no significant benefits on improving stride length and walking speed.","PeriodicalId":101309,"journal":{"name":"Japanese journal of comprehensive rehabilitation science","volume":"245 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74494639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This case is a woman (54 years of age) who had been operated on for rotator cuff repair in 2017 and passed six weeks after surgery. Her job is a shop assistant in market. It showed that the ROM of shoulder flexion was deficit 70° from the non-involved side, abduction deficit 135°, internal rotation deficit 60°, external rotation deficit 80° at six weeks after surgery. She had rehabilitation exercise over eight weeks in a specific rehabilitation center. The ROM of shoulder was rapidly improved after two weeks a rehabilitation exercise. And after four weeks a rehabilitation, The ROM of shoulder and Shoulder instability score (ASES) were restored to nearly normal and VAS was well controlled. Shoulder ROM and ASES and VAS remained normal during the eight week rehabilitation exercise after rotator cuff repair. It was very effective to have rehabilitation exercise three times a week after rotator cuff repair. The shoulder range of motion (flexion, abduction, internal rotation and external rotation), ASES and VAS were consistently improved and restored to normal during the eight week rehabilitation after rotator cuff repair.","PeriodicalId":101309,"journal":{"name":"Japanese journal of comprehensive rehabilitation science","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85319503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effect of two doses of botulinum toxin type A on maximum plantar contact area in hemiplegic stroke patients with pes equinovarus. Jpn J Compr Rehabil Sci 2020; 11: 85-90. Objectives: To quantitatively demonstrate the therapeutic effects of two doses of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) on pes equinovarus in hemiplegic stroke patients. Methods: The subjects of this study included eight chronic stroke patients who received two BoNT-A doses (mean dose interval: 136.0 (10.5) days) from April 2011 to March 2013 and underwent a sheet-type weight-bearing lower limb test. The maximum plantar contact area on the paralyzed side, ratio of maximum plantar contact areas on the paralyzed and nonparalyzed sides, and Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) were measured before BoNT-A administration and 4 weeks after both the first and second doses. Results: A significant increase in the maximum plantar contact area was observed after administration of the second dose compared to that of the first dose on the paralyzed side. Additionally, a significant increase was observed in the ratio of paralyzed/non-paralyzed maximum plantar contact areas after the administration of both the first and second doses compared to that before BoNT-A administration. MAS was observed to decline significantly after the administration of both the first and second doses compared to that prior to BoNT-A administration. Conclusions: We suggest that comparison of the plantar contact area is useful for assessing the therapeutic effects of BoNT-A doses on pes equinovarus in hemiplegic stroke patients.","PeriodicalId":101309,"journal":{"name":"Japanese journal of comprehensive rehabilitation science","volume":"31 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72921939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effect of tongue-hold swallow on pharyngeal cavity: kinematic analysis using 320-row area detector CT. Jpn J Compr Rehabil Sci 2020; 11: 35-42. Purpose: This study analyzed the effect of the tonguehold swallow (THS) on the pharyngeal cavity during swallowing three-dimensionally using 320-row area detector computed tomography (320-ADCT). We hypothesized a greater decrease in pharyngeal volume with the THS than with the saliva swallow (SS); that is, the pharyngeal cavity would be more constricted with the THS. Methods: The THS and SS were examined using 320ADCT in six speech language pathologists (22-29 years old). Pharyngeal volume, hyolaryngeal displacement, and cross-sectional area of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) were measured frame-by-frame and compared between the two swallows. Results: Although some participants showed smaller pharyngeal volume with the THS than hypothesized, others showed larger pharyngeal volume. With the THS, the hyoid bone was positioned significantly higher at swallow onset, the hyoid and larynx were significantly higher at maximum superior displacement, and the cross-sectional area of the UES was significantly larger. Discussion: No constant effect of the THS on pharyngeal volume was found. The THS may influence hyolaryngeal elevation and UES opening. Further study is necessary to consider the methodology of the THS, such as tongue protrusion length.","PeriodicalId":101309,"journal":{"name":"Japanese journal of comprehensive rehabilitation science","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73501596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
