Its complexity has to an extent naturally led researchers to focus relatively narrowly on specific aspects of the larger strategic problem. In this paper, we review and classify the literature associated with workforce agility in order to form a foundation for advancing the research and implementation of workforce agility in operations management (OM). We describe a framework for characterizing workforce agility from an OM perspective. The framework shows an agile workforce simultaneously possesses multiple interdependent capabilities benefiting organizations operating in highly uncertain environments. This paper further identifies approaches that the literature has proposed for attaining workforce agility. We analyze mechanisms for enabling workforce agility based on attribute measures used in agility research. Some OM practices are related to workforce agility and have been intensively researched in OM, including workforce flexibility and dynamic workforce planning. While they are potential contributors to workforce agility, gaps are observed between these OM practices and the workforce agility literature. Accordingly, we highlight research opportunities in OM for furthering knowledge regarding workforce agility.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101192,"journal":{"name":"Surveys in Operations Research and Management Science","volume":"20 2","pages":"Pages 55-69"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.sorms.2015.11.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72281545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A high number of studies on CCPM have been published since its introduction and it seems it is now time for an extensive review of its literature. This study consults the CCPM literature in an inductive manner in order to investigate the status of ongoing research on CCPM, identify the approaches taken by researchers and their contributions, and suggest areas for future research. The main aim is to describe the current status of research on CCPM and explore CCPM aspects that require more research in the future. This study covers 140 journal and conference papers written on CCPM through an “exhaustive with selective citation” approach identified through online and reference searching. Those papers are categorised into six groups of introductory, critical, improving, empirical, case-reporting and exploiting papers based on their positions on CCPM, using the “hierarchical coding” method. As the result of this research, the current status of research on CCPM is critically reviewed and 21 potential areas of CCPM for future investigations are recommended as a major contribution.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101192,"journal":{"name":"Surveys in Operations Research and Management Science","volume":"20 2","pages":"Pages 43-54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.sorms.2015.10.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78472920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
