In the electricity distribution segment, the focus is on improving the overall efficiency of companies. Therefore, this paper aims to verify the correlation between the focus on innovation and relative economic efficiency. The survey was conducted in 2014 covering data from 2010 to 2013 of 20 exclusive electricity distribution companies listed on BM&FBovespa. This research is applied and descriptive, with a quantitative approach. In the data collection, the documentary strategy was used, with a technique of content analysis, collecting data in available documents. From the literature consulted, a scale was proposed to quantify the focus on innovation. To quantify the efficiency scores, Data Envelopment Analysis was used through Frontier Analyst software, based on accounting data. The main results with the scale of innovation indicate low focus on innovation in the companies surveyed. When there is no significant correlation between the innovation scores and the economic efficiency scores, other existing studies point out that, in Brazil, innovation efforts, in addition to being incipient, seek to comply with the relevant legislation rather than the benefits of innovation.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101056,"journal":{"name":"RAI Revista de Administra??o e Inova??o","volume":"14 3","pages":"Pages 235-249"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.rai.2017.03.011","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"92062243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a descriptive study based on a qualitative–quantitative analysis of a case study of road works on BR-381/MG, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The units of analysis were the bidding documents, respective contracts, and the construction sites. The results showed that 40 companies took part in the bidding process in 13 cooperative consortia, 8 of which were vertical and horizontal networks, and 5 were vertical networks. An incremental innovation related to the project delivery method was identified between the government and construction companies in Brazil by means of integrated design and build procurement, which changed relationships within the construction supply chain by moving the design supplier into the contractor consortium and improved supply chain management. Moreover, inversion of stages by the new bidding law has increased agility in procurement of public works, as prices are analyzed prior to the other documents.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":101056,"journal":{"name":"RAI Revista de Administra??o e Inova??o","volume":"14 3","pages":"Pages 260-277"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.rai.2017.05.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91983078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, it is necessary to identify which knowledge management (KM) practices are used by startup companies. This paper aims to identify KM practices used to overcome critical factors of startups’ development in Brazil. It will be discussed the relation between the critical factors of startup development and the KM practices used. Interviews were conducted with startups established in business incubators in the southern region of Brazil. Results demonstrated that the main KM practices used to overcome critical factors of startup development – Opportunity Recognition, Entrepreneurial Commitment, Credibility and Sustainability – are related to company's internal knowledge. Internal knowledge is a company asset, which includes not only R&D activities but also its actions and routines. To this process is important the knowledge's systematization created through patents, since it allows that the ‘best’ knowledge is practically implemented and what benefits are obtained for such institutions and for the country. Through the survey of patent applications, this paper demonstrates the technological development promoted by PRI. Based on deposits of patents in Thomson Innovation data, is performed a quantitative approach, from the collection of secondary data, based on frequency analysis, regression and chi-square test. We conducted a survey of patent deposits by PRI from 2004 to 2013, proving the joint and individual technological development, the most frequent types of partners promoters of deposits. In this context, our research question is: can a Regional Innovation Systems be a favorable environment for Open Innovation implementation? To address this question, the main objective of this paper was to identify and analyze the determinant factors for a successful implementation of Open Innovation in Regional Innovation Systems. The factors were empirically tested through qualitative research involving seven of the key actors in a Regional Innovation Systems in the Paraná state, in southern Brazil. The results suggest that some of the determinants factors and conditions for Open Innovation implementation are: proximity and close relationship with Higher Education Institutions; existence of a governance system to intermediate relationships with knowledge actors outside the regional system; mechanisms of relationship network and knowledge absorptive capacity by the firms constituting the Regional Innovation Systems; and provision of public support (e.g., incentives, funding, infrastructure). We use a dynamic model calibrated to a pharmaceutical company to study PPM, focusing on three types of heuristics — gradual increase or decrease, random-normal choice, and target-based search — to evaluate the impact of the introduction of innovation projects in the pipeline on the performance in R&D. We find that a gradual decrease of project introduction rates results in convergence, but the size of the adjustments and delays in the pipeline can limit the precision of the results.
