Jenkins","doi":"10.1016/0094-4548(81)90052-7","DOIUrl":"10.1016/0094-4548(81)90052-7","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>The mass-transfer analogue method, used previously to measure heat transfer coefficients in a single internal compartment of a small cylindrical shell-and-tube heat exchanger model, has been used to study the case where clearances exist between shell and baffle, and between tubes and baffle, for one baffle-spacing, with various flow configurations, and varying baffle-cut. Baffles of two thicknesses with the same ‘Z’ factor, gave different results, contrary to the accepted view. Saxena","doi":"10.1016/0094-4548(81)90054-0","DOIUrl":"10.1016/0094-4548(81)90054-0","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Heat transfer coefficient for a vertical smooth coaxial heat transfer tube is measured in a cylindrical air fluidized bed as a function of fluidizing velocity, temperature and particle size. The qualitative variations of heat transfer coefficient with these parameters are consistent with the general picture of heat transfer mechanism and with the general picture of heat transfer mechanism and with the limited data available in the literature. The solids movement and mixing in the bed is investigated by measuring heat transfer coefficient at different radial locations in the bed as a function of temperature and gas velocity. A thin layer of a suitable metal is electroplated on the surface of the tube wall. The entire contacting surface between the plated layer and the base metal serves as the joint of the thermocouple. A wire of the same material as the tube is securely attached to the tube wall by embedding under an electrodeposited layer of the same metal. Another wire of the same material as the plated layer is securely attached to the plated layer by the same technique. There wires serve as the leads of the thermocouple represents the average temperature of the plated portion of the tube surface fairly accurately. It is shown that for a given interfacial shear (parameter) there exists multiple solutions and oscillation between the possible states takes place. Thus, it would appear that large waves are formed, but in fact the flow is controlled by film equations.
