The resultant analytical solution is applied in an engineering analysis of cooling of a commercial rubber band. The present results are simpler and more compact than those available before and permit a clearer interpretation of the effects of finite rates of mass transfer and of turbulence. Approximate and rigorous methods for obtaining the mass and energy fluxes are developed under the assumptions of steady one dimensional transfer. Ganić","doi":"10.1016/0094-4548(81)90026-6","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1016/0094-4548(81)90026-6","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Charts for trasient heat conduction in a cylinder of infinite length, an infinite flat plate, and a sphere are presented for a range of Biot numbers (<span><math><mtext>1</mtext><mtext>100</mtext><mtext> </mtext><mtext>to</mtext><mtext> </mtext><mtext>1</mtext><mtext>1000</mtext></math></span>) relevant to problems which involve cooling by natural convection. These charts may be easily combined to solve for temperature histories of different bodies, including cylinders of finite length.
