A desired excitation spectrum <em>M</em><sub><em>xy</em></sub>(<em>v</em><sub>1</sub>) can be obtained if the lengths of the pulses are modulated. The relationship between the shape of the modulation and the excitation spectrum is derived using the rotation-operator formalism. This approach is also applied to the DANTE sequence and similarities and differences between these two sequences are discussed. An application of the proposed sequence to obtaining a depth discrimination with surface coils was investigated and experiments on phantoms were performed. Preliminary <em>in vivo</em> selective spectra were also obtained.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Magnetic Resonance (1969)","volume":"100 3","pages":"Pages 453-468"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0022-2364(92)90053-A","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77569913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiments are based on reverse-DEPT and reverse-INEPT polarization-transfer sequences. It is shown that relaxation rates obtained from <sup>13</sup>C-direct-observe and from polarization-transfer experiments are identical only if magnetization from each of the <sup>13</sup>C transitions is transferred equally to the detected <sup>1</sup>H spins. This requires judicious choices in pulse angles and delays in reverse-DEPT and reverse-INEPT experiments. For application to macromolecules, experimental and theoretical results suggest that polarization-transfer schemes based on reverse INEPT are superior to reverse-DEPT-based sequences and give results which are in good agreement with values measured via <sup>13</sup>C-observe methods.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100800,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Magnetic Resonance (1969)","volume":"100 3","pages":"Pages 538-558"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0022-2364(92)90058-F","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90390336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
