Die Koexistenz der verschiedenen Kulturen in den Klassen ist fur die LehrerInnen, Kinder der Aufnahmegesellschaft und die Fluchtlingskinder eine Herausforderung. Zur Thematisierung dieser neuen Situation im Klassenverband bietet sich interkulturelle und problemorientierte Kinderliteratur an. Kulturelle Fremdheit, Krieg und Flucht wurden in diversen zeitgenossischen Werken namhafter Kinderbuchautoren aufgenommen und kindgerecht erzahlt. Literarische Eindrucke ermoglichen, die eigene Sichtweise auf die Welt zu erweitern und facettenreich deuten zu lernen. Literatur hilft jungen Rezipienten, sich in dem kulturell heterogenen Alltag besser orientieren zu konnen. Durch das Lesen von Buchern konnen Kinder die Welt aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln entdecken. Literarische Werke fordern ihre Vorstellungskraft, Fantasie und unterstutzten die Rezipienten bei ihrer Entwicklung von Empathie. Dies gilt nicht nur fur Bucher, sondern generell fur Literatur im weitesten Sinne. Im Handel sind teilweise Begleithefte zu dieser themenspezifischen Kinderliteratur vorhanden. Sie beinhalten fur Lehrpersonen viele Vorschlage, wie das angesprochene Motiv mit Ubungen und Aktivitaten vertieft werden kann. Es ist wichtig, diese Lekturen mit viel Bedacht auszuwahlen. The motives behind writing this autobiography according to Al-Serihi are first discussed, followed by exploring 1) the importance of self-awareness and self-transformations as an incentive for writing the autobiography and 2) the different stages of self-awareness through studying the manifestations of self-transformations and the intellectual controversy that was related to the notion of identity in the text. In doing so, the researcher tackles the following terms: alienation, splitting, and the tragedy of self and the collective sense. Additionally, the narrative construction of Life Outside the Brackets is explored, which is based on various narrative techniques including linguistic levels (direct, poetic, and mythological), time movement (accelerating the narrative via deletion and overview, and slowing it down via dialogue scenes and the descriptive pauses), and place (familiar and monotonous places). The analytical-descriptive approach is utilized to investigate the narrative techniques, and some of the psychological theories are made use of to study the self-transformations and their ideological and psychological struggle in the autobiography’s setting.","PeriodicalId":100796,"journal":{"name":"Journal of King Saud University - Languages and Translation","volume":"198 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77718967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Verga e generalmente considerato il maggior esponente del verismo italiano. In effetti pronunciando il suo nome, nella maggior parte dei casi sorgono in mente quasi automaticamente i titoli delle sue opere dell’impronta puramente verista, quali per esempio la celebre raccolta di racconti Vita dei campi, oppure i romanzi I Malavoglia e Mastro Don Gesualdo. Una delle manifestazioni piu sperimentali e virtuosistiche di questa tecnica narrativa profondamente originale e quella che Verga definiva il “colore locale” nel linguaggio della narrazione, un linguaggio popolare. Non si tratta di una riproduzione fedele del dialetto siciliano locale (che sarebbe risultato incomprensibile per quasi tutti i lettori), ma di una sorta di italiano popolare, ben lontano dalla lingua letteraria e dalla lingua della prosa colta, che riecheggia continuamente il linguaggio parlato e dialettale, soprattutto nel lessico (ad esempio attraverso i citati riferimenti e le similitudini di ambito locale, oppure attraverso i nomignoli dei personaggi, i proverbi esplicitamente citati e le espressioni proverbiali) e nella sintassi, che e colloquiale e libera, ‘scorretta’ rispetto alla grammatica dell’italiano scritto, proprio per imitare il piu possibile il parlato. Si tratta insomma di una lingua artificiale, che ottiene tuttavia uno straordinario effetto di realta, e che riesce a rendere alla perfezione il colore locale, pur senza trasformarsi in una trascrizione letterale del dialetto. La ricerca affronta anche le ambiguita semantiche tra il senso originale del siciliano e il corrispondente italiano. Parla, inoltre, di come e la traduzione in arabo; di come ha reagito il traduttore davanti questa lingua originale e di come ha compreso le ambiguita presenti nei Malavoglia.","PeriodicalId":100796,"journal":{"name":"Journal of King Saud University - Languages and Translation","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76667554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El ejemplo mas evidente de esta intertextualidad es el caso de la literatura y el cine. Ambas formas artisticas mantienen un dialogo permanente, desde la introduccion de la septima arte en nuestra vida cultural. Son dos formas narrativas que disponen de sus propias tecnicas. La novela de La fiesta del chivo del peruano Vargas Llosa que fue llevada al cine presenta unos rasgos cinematograficos que facilitaron su adaptacion al cine. Sin embargo, las tecnicas cinematograficas en una novela tienen que ver con la materia de expresion del filme (movimientos de camara, montaje, etc.), y la terminologia que al ser aplicada a la literatura se resenara en terminos metaforicos, pues lo que se traduce de un sistema a otro no es un procedimiento tecnico, sino el sentido cuyo empleo puede generarse en el filme. Este trabajo tiene el objetivo de enfocar los procedimientos cinematograficos utilizados por Llosa al escribir su texto narrativo.","PeriodicalId":100796,"journal":{"name":"Journal of King Saud University - Languages and Translation","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89326979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comedians usually play with words and expressions to create various readings. The various readings are the basis of humorous incongruity. Following Raskin’s (1985) Semantic Script Theory of Humour (SSTH), the research paper’s approach is semantic, aiming to analyze linguistically how comedians joke verbally in front of an audience in comic TV shows. The research paper also sheds light on whether or not semantic sense relations, especially homonymy and polysemy, are the basic techniques of verbal incongruity. Besides, figurative language and parody are approached to show to what extent they are creating elements of humor in comic TV shows. Cultural barriers are put into consideration throughout the analysis via the role of cultural literacy between the comedians and the audience. Consequently, the contribution of the research paper is the semantic approach via a qualitative framework to analyze techniques of verbal humor in addition to the role of culture in comic TV shows.","PeriodicalId":100796,"journal":{"name":"Journal of King Saud University - Languages and Translation","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74495850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, cross-linguistic influence is bidirectional, also allowing for ‘reverse’ transfer. This article sheds light on the influence of English on modern standard Arabic (MSA). It discusses the most common linguistic manifestations of this reverse interlingual transfer together with some of the possible consequences. Data were collected from books, articles, manuals, reports and recommendations. Adopting a descriptive linguistic approach, the paper lists some of the manifestations of this reverse transfer such as transliteration, substitution, re-ordering, overproduction, omission, poor translation, calquing, borrowing, and code mixing. It also enumerates some of the detrimental effects of reverse cross-linguistic transfer from EFL to MSA: linguistic invasion, ‘foreignness’, alienation of the audience and the speaker/writer, incomprehensibility, misunderstanding, and exposing readers to poor and incorrect MSA. The paper concludes with a recommendation for further studies to give more insight into the negative effects of this reverse transfer, to investigate the other factors leading to the deterioration of the standard of MSA, and to propose some solutions. Further studies are needed to investigate this and other factors and propose practical solutions to the problem.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100796,"journal":{"name":"Journal of King Saud University - Languages and Translation","volume":"25 1","pages":"Pages 35-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/j.jksult.2012.10.001","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88426210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Born in Melilla (1932), Arrabal chose a voluntary exile for himself in France since 1955 owing to the repressive regime of Franco. Framing himself in a queer and controversial pattern, he is one of the famous Spanish playwrights in the second half of 20th century. Because of his audacious works, he surpassed his contemporary writers to the global recognition. His works are popular in Europe and are highly appreciated by critics, especially <em>El arquitecto y el emperador de Asiria</em> (1977) and <em>El cementerio de Automóviles</em> (1977). The author began his career with quite creative works of art. He wrote plays where death is ever present not as a destination from a philosophical point of view, but as a ritual ceremony. In <em>Fando y Lis</em>, Arrabal presents a universe dominated by anxiety and meaningless, using the most absurd dialogue and situations, strange and inconceivable objects. <em>Fando y Lis</em>is a work marked by its absurd scenes, dialogue incongruous repetitive language and presents characters who are on their way to Tar (walking to get the reality, happiness, freedom, heaven, etc.). To foreign language learners, the Internet is a tool through which they can access authentic target language content. This study reports the results of a study conducted to explore the effect of reading on the Internet on Saudi EFL learners’ overall reading comprehension performance. The participating students were divided into two groups. The experimental group was asked to take a reading comprehension test in an internet format. The control group took the same test in its print format. The results indicate that the Internet has a positive impact on the overall reading comprehension ability. Students who are asked to take the Inherent-based reading test outperformed the other group. This finding comes in accordance with the results of some of the few studies carried out in this area within EFL contexts. Several factors could have contributed to this outcome. The assumption that the Internet raises the level of motivation among EFL learners can justify this conclusion. Another hypothesis is based on the form of strategies and skills involved in reading on the Internet. Online reading may encourage the proper use of the right strategies that meet the particular needs of reading comprehension among EFL learners.
