This paper reviews the role of high-speed vessels in the context of the total supply chain based on Fisher's product categorisation model. A mode choice process is presented here within the context of supply chain transport strategies. The model relates mode choice to <em>volume supply</em>, <em>product cost</em>, <em>shipping distance</em>, <em>frequency of service</em>, <em>transit time</em> and <em>product type</em>. This is usually the case of airports serving areas of tourist attraction where growth in demand of charter flights has made them the dominant passenger flow. This paper presents a simulation model that enables the investigation of charter passenger effects on air terminal facilities and enables the estimation of the level of service offered. Some of the model’s features can be easily implemented by use of spreadsheets. The authors examine the changing nature of the performance measurement of airports. Airport performance measures are important for day to day business and operational management, regulatory bodies, Government and other stakeholders such as passengers and airlines. Measurement systems have been forced to develop in response to changing organisational contexts. A dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling system may be specified which allows e-commerce customers to select their own delivery Time Windows and have these confirmed on-line as they place their order. The methodology is based upon demand forecasting, which leads to the generation of phantom orders and phantom routes. Subsequently, actual orders substitute for phantom orders in an on-line customer order process. The routing and scheduling method includes using both parallel tour-building and parallel insertion algorithms.
