In order to clarify the influence of the mask and frame quantitatively, we used an integral equation method to analyze the magnetization resulting when a shadow mask and frame are subjected to an ambient field. The electron beam trajectories were calculated using the derived magnetic field distributions, and the mislanding was computed to obtain a quantitative evaluation of the color change. The permanent magnet pairs previously used in LIPS perpendicular orientation were replaced by an electromagnet with long iron plates for extension of the magnetic poles. Obliquely oriented tapes are easily prepared by appropriately choosing the coating speed and drying conditions. Coatings dried in a perpendicular magnetic field with an intensity gradient were found to be oriented not perpendicularly, but obliquely. Annealing experiments suggested that a decrease in CNR results from degradation of the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in a Pt/Co film heated by an erasing laser beam. The main mechanism of degradation is atomic intermixing at the interface in Pt/Co multilayers. In the case of a Pt/Co film exposed to air, Co might be oxidized during erase cycles. The higher peak temperature of Pt/Co films accelerates the intermixing. Therefore, the number of cycles was increased by adding a heat-diffusive layer to the Pt/Co film in order to lower the peak temperature. The grain diameter of samples was varied between 200Å and 5 μm by preparing sputtered films and rapidly quenched ribbons. The coercivity in all cases was roughly proportional to the sixth power of the grain diameter below a certain diameter (200Å, 400Å and 300Å for Fe, Ni and Co respectively), and was proportional to the reciprocal of the grain diameter at larger values. These were built up of thin FeTaN layers with alternating anisotropy direction. Such films, hereafter referred to as \"Double-Structured substrate Bias-sputtered Multilayer\" (DSBM) films, were developed for potential application in magnetic heads. Double-Structured Laminated (DSL) heads composed of DSBM films sandwiched between ceramic substrates have been developed. These heads exhibit excellent recording characteristics equal to those of heads composed of Conventional Laminated (CL) FeTaN film heads used with high-coercivity tape. However, these characteristics cannot be applied to analyses which assume a rotating magnetic field. In order to analyze such fields, we measured the magnetization characteristics as vector values using a two-dimensional magnetic measurement apparatus. This paper presents a magnetic reluctivity tensor expression for the two-dimensional magnetization characteristics in finite element analysis.
