Sánchez","doi":"10.1016/S2172-3761(12)70054-7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1016/S2172-3761(12)70054-7","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><p>To assess GP views on the usefulness and the kind of issue of a programme aimed to reduce the occurrence of drug interactions (DI) in primary care.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>Cross-sectional study. Questionnaire survey of GPs participating in the PRISMAp programme. Setting: Primary care, Murcia Region of Spain. Participants: 189 GPs participating in the PRISMAp programme who received periodic information about the DI detected in the electronic medical records of their patients. Measurements: questions about the usefulness (6), opportunities to improve (5) and the kind of issue of the report received (3) where asked using a 5-items Likert scale. The agreement/disagreement were obtained considering the percentage of Likert scores greater and smaller than 3, respectively.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>The response rate was 43.9% (83 of 189). Of these, 77.5% think that PRISMAp is suitable to warn them about DI, 41.3% have changed their prescriptions, and 52.0% have frequently been informed about DI that they did not know. The best valued opportunities to improve were the incorporation of recommendations to the electronic prescription module (93.3%) and the warning of potential DI when prescribing (94.7%).</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>This study provides an approach to the perceptions and a better understanding of the GPs attitudes toward the programmes aimed to assist their prescriptions and, specially, toward those aimed to reduce the DI. Montañés-Muñoz","doi":"10.1016/S2172-3761(12)70057-2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1016/S2172-3761(12)70057-2","url":null,"abstract":"<div><p>Apart from bisphosphonates adverse events described in premarketing phases; case reports, pharmacovigilance studies and alerts from regulatory agencies about other adverse events not previously described have been published in the last years. The objective of our study is the description of adverse events potentially attributable to bisphosphonates in the usual clinical practice.</p><p>We describe the adverse events of two bisphosphonates (risedronate and alendronate) in a historical cohort through a revision of medical hystory.</p><p>A total of 110 patients of 63.4 years were included, 103 (93.6%) of them were women. 33 (30%) were receiving bisphosphonate treatment at the data collection time. 68 (61.8%) received risedronic acid. In 88.2% (n=97) of our patients the reason to start a bisphosphonate treatment was primary prevention of fractures, and in 6.4% (n=7) of patients there was a previous diagnosis of fracture. The rest of treatments were off-label. 82 (74.5%) of our patients had any adverse event potentially attributable to bisphosphonates. The most frequent adverse events were musculoskeletal pain (58.2%) and gastrointestinal effects (24.5%).</p><p>Bisphosphonates are a well tolerated therapeutic group.
