The findings are examined in relation to four hypotheses. Amongst the main conclusions of the study is that there is an apparently large group of suppliers who, in spite of implementing a range of quality management preventative practices, still undertake considerable component and product inspection, and they tend to be stuck in the old quality paradigm of detection. It is also pointed out that suppliers more advanced in the use of quality practices are achieving better operational performance in terms of quality, reliability, cost, flexibility and design.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100504,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management","volume":"7 3","pages":"Pages 187-196"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S0969-7012(00)00030-7","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71778739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This exploratory, empirical study examined and compared the trait profiles of current top performers and of ‘ideal’ buyers for the future. This approach links buyer traits with perceived managerial satisfaction with role performance. Based on cluster analysis, we present a taxonomy of five ‘ideal’ types of buyer. We propose that future research should seek to match the identified trait clusters with a typology of purchasing contexts.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100504,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management","volume":"7 3","pages":"Pages 197-208"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S0969-7012(00)00031-9","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71778679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of information in construction supply chains witnessed a shift from its passive function in decision-making from the 1990s, to a strategic resource that drives both the processes and competitiveness of companies. This change presents challenges for organisations that participate in the construction supply chain. The way organisations involved in the construction supply chain manage this resource will have direct impact on their competitiveness. This is influenced by the information acquisition, processing, utilisation and transfer practices of their professional staff (actors) involved in the processes of the construction supply chain. The paper presents results from a survey that looks at some aspects of how key actors in the construction supply chain address these information-related issues.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":100504,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management","volume":"7 3","pages":"Pages 155-164"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/S0969-7012(00)00024-1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71778677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
