This tendency has contributed to escalating product returns and higher retailer costs due to reverse logistics. This study explores how product uncertainties, stemming from perceived product quality and promotional discounts in customer’s online purchases, affect the financial performance of the reverse supply chain for an online retailer in a developing-country context. A quantitative approach is employed to survey 590 online retail managers and customers from different backgrounds using non-probability convenience sampling. The findings show that heightened product uncertainty drives impulsive buying when combined with liberal return policies that further increase the handling costs of returns. The study’s outcome underscores the need for retailers to balance customer satisfaction with efficient reverse logistics, emphasizing strategies such as improved product descriptions and careful management of discounts to mitigate impulsive shopping and reduce returns. This study provides insights into the dynamics of customers’ purchases and firm’s return policies to the stakeholders striving to manage reverse supply chain operations and improve financial performance in the highly competitive digital marketplace.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100253,"journal":{"name":"Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain","volume":"14 ","pages":"Article 100207"},"PeriodicalIF":6.9,"publicationDate":"2025-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143427658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In practical applications, coal blending has been shown to effectively reduce sulfur emissions from power plants. Addressing this challenge, this study proposes a coal transportation scheduling model that integrates considerations of port stockyard capacity, operational conflicts among stockpile groups, and blending requirements to meet power generation demands. The model aims to coordinate coal reclaiming, stacking, and transportation operations while minimizing coal storage costs and sulfur treatment costs, ensuring the uninterrupted fulfillment of power generation tasks. However, the viability of such hubs has been questioned, as the willingness to pay of businesses receiving goods has been an issue. This study employs a system dynamics approach to explore this willingness to pay in consolidation initiatives by quantifying the benefits receivers can gain, thus bridging a gap in the literature. The system dynamics method allows a holistic view of the system. Therefore, a quantitative model is built to explore the behaviour of the businesses receiving goods and their interests in value-added services. Data from a case study in Stockholm is used as quantitative input. Moreover, fourteen businesses in the area are interviewed to understand their needs and to create different scenarios. The analysis of the interviews reveals that the level of interest in value-added services varies depending on the type of business. Four types of receivers are identified: large offices, small offices, large shops, and small shops. The model results show that the main benefits for the receivers are time savings in handling deliveries, leading to cost savings and the use of the city hub for storage. The results of this research can be used by decision-makers in the private and public sectors to understand the dynamics of city hubs and to formulate effective policies for the success of these hubs. The originality of this study lies in the combination of the system dynamic approach and the receivers’ perspective, which is relatively underexplored. The results can thus provide valuable insights in achieving viable consolidation solutions.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100253,"journal":{"name":"Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain","volume":"14 ","pages":"Article 100202"},"PeriodicalIF":6.9,"publicationDate":"2025-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143165969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article aims to measure the key dimensions driving sustainability and resilience in supply chains and their interrelationships. We propose a new composite indicator for their joint assessment through the application of a robust composite indicator development framework, and the integration of secondary data with primary data gathered from a survey in the Italian industry. Results show no evidence of a trade-off between supply chain sustainability and resilience and instead highlight a potentially important cross-fertilization from sustainability to resilience through supply chain collaboration when these transcend the internal boundaries of the firm. This is a significant contribution to the existing debate in the literature on the relationship between sustainability and resilience in the supply chain, thanks to the development of an integrative composite indicator and a quantitative approach to the explanation of this relationship. By fostering a deeper understanding of supply chain sustainability and resilience, this investigation informs decision-makers on potential avenues to concurrently build and sustain their firms’ supply chain sustainability and resilience.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100253,"journal":{"name":"Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain","volume":"14 ","pages":"Article 100200"},"PeriodicalIF":6.9,"publicationDate":"2025-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143165965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, a competitive market emerges where multiple oligarchic Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) providers vie for profit. However, analyzing such systems, especially in a long-term rolling horizon, poses significant challenges due to complex strategic interactions among multiple entities. This article proposes an agent-based model to analyze the evolution of spatial CaaS markets. Firstly, we propose a strategic pricing game among CaaS firms based on multinomial logit user choice model, and formally prove the existence of Nash equilibria. For equilibrium finding, an iterative algorithm method leveraging the Nikaido–Isoda function and Barzilai-Borwein step size rule is presented. Furthermore, an agent-based market simulation algorithm is developed to model investment decisions of CaaS firm agents based on equilibrium prices. The proposed model is validated using real world data from Shenzhen, and results indicate the efficacy of the equilibrium solving algorithm in reducing computational burden. This study reveals that deregulated competition among CaaS providers, while promoting social welfare, poses risks to long-term sustainability due to regional inequality and market saturation. Timely policy intervention is recommended to guide the sustainable evolution of the CaaS economy.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":100253,"journal":{"name":"Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain","volume":"14 ","pages":"Article 100199"},"PeriodicalIF":6.9,"publicationDate":"2024-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143165967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The managers in charge of Lebanon-based businesses that run a cold supply chain for fruits and vegetables made up the target population. A sample of 136 managers filled out the survey. The results revealed a strong positive relationship between sustainable supply chain practices and operational flexibility, product quality, delivery, and cost. Due to their significant influence on operational performance, sustainable supply chain management practices are strongly advised for Lebanese businesses operating in the fruits and vegetables sector. Firms can improve their operational performance while incorporating sustainable practices all along their supply chain. This research focuses on resolving the contradictions faced in green supply chain management (GSCM) implementation through a combined application of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) and the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methods. Five key contradictions were identified: regulatory enhancements vs. resource limitations, technological unreadiness vs. regulatory refinement, profitability vs. customer trust, collaboration vs. competitiveness, and green material prioritization vs. scarcity. The study proposes 18 inventive principles to address these contradictions, including strategies such as flexible technology adoption and market segmentation. DEMATEL is then applied to analyze the interactions between these principles, offering a structured model for strategic decision-making. The DEMATEL analysis revealed that government support plays the most critical role in driving green supply chain adoption, influencing other strategies significantly.
