Conclusions Health personnel are at risk of suffering from the disease and be potential transmitters to infants, who may die from this cause. This study suggests that the current vaccination policies in health personnel should be modified to determine the compulsory nature of the vaccination, especially in those individuals in charge of the care of the pediatric population.","PeriodicalId":100195,"journal":{"name":"Boletín Médico Del Hospital Infantil de México (English Edition)","volume":"131 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85646534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the use of a new Spanish version of the Oropharyngeal Mucositis-Specific Quality-of-Life instrument (OMQoL) for pediatric patients. Methods A multicentric, cross-sectional validation study was conducted to translate and adapt OMQoL from English to Spanish for its use by children with OM aged 8-16 years. Reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha; content and construct validity, in conjunction with exploratory factor analysis. The convergent validity, with the correlations of the scales for OM defined by the WHO, OMAS (Oropharingeal Mucositis Assessment Scale) and the PedsQL-3 cancer module in Spanish. Results One hundred and ninety-three children with mean age of 10.91 ± 2.38 years participated in the study, out of which 101 (52.3%) were females. In this sample, 80 children (41.5%) suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia and 111 (57.5%) had grade 2 and 3 OM. The factorial analysis resulted in four dimensions with loads >0.40. Among the 31 items of the OMQoL, six were eliminated. Cronbach alpha of OMQoL-Spanish was 0.954. Spearman´s correlations (r) with the OMS and OMAS scales were significant (with r = -0.720 and r = -0.689; p < 0.01, respectively). Moderate correlation was observed with the PedsQL-3 cancer module (r = 0.426; p < 0.01). Conclusions OMQoL-Spanish demonstrated adequate psychometric properties, resulting in a reliable and valid instrument for measuring QoL in children with MO.","PeriodicalId":100195,"journal":{"name":"Boletín Médico Del Hospital Infantil de México (English Edition)","volume":"57 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74265630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Poor vocational training is referred to as a critical component for proper treatment. The objective of this study was to describe the knowledge and practices of the nursing staff of the Pediatric Hospital, Pereira Rossell Hospital Center, regarding the assessment and approach of pain in children. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study, anonymous survey on 1/12/2016. All the nurses present that day were included. Variables: age, gender, years of work, educational level. For the association of variables, Chi square test was used; a value of p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The survey was answered by 89.3% of the personnel present; median age 39 years (20-63), women 81%; median of years as pediatric nurse 10 years (1 month-38 years); maximum degree of training: auxiliary (73%). Acceptable level of global knowledge (61%); no significant association was found between knowledge and age, gender, years of work and educational level. Infant pain assessment scales less reported: neonates, children 1 to 3 years and children with cognitive disorder. Other deficits of knowledge detected: interval morphine interdosis, interpreting distraction of the child as absence of pain and considering the perception of the experienced health personnel as the most appropriate tool to measure pain. conclusions: The surveys demonstrated acceptable knowledge about pain assessment and management. However, aspects to improve in the knowledge of scales of evaluation in special populations, lack of familiarity with the use of opioids and conceptions of subjective evaluation of pain were objectified.","PeriodicalId":100195,"journal":{"name":"Boletín Médico Del Hospital Infantil de México (English Edition)","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90936762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If it is not corrected surgically, it can cause cirrhosis and death before 2 years of age. In Mexico, since 2013, the stool color card (SCC) was incorporated into the National Health Card (NHC) for the screening of BA. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of SCC for the detection of BA before and after its incorporation to the NHC. Methods: This is an ambispective, analytical observational study. We included patients with BA treated in two pediatric specialized hospitals. We compared the age of reference, diagnosis, and surgery before and after incorporation of the SCC. Furthermore, a questionnaire was made for the parents to know their perception about the SCC. Results: In 59 children, there was no difference among the time of diagnosis (75 vs. 70 days of life) or at the time of the surgery (84 vs. 90 days of life) between the preand post-implementation of the SCC on the NHC. The questionnaire showed that 10 (30%) of the parents received information about the use of the SCC and only 13 (38%) identified the abnormal stool. Conclusions: This study did not show changes in time for the timely detection of BA using SCC. Therefore, it is necessary to reinforce the program in the three levels of care in our country.","PeriodicalId":100195,"journal":{"name":"Boletín Médico Del Hospital Infantil de México (English Edition)","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75286308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding this knowledge, the social representations that Mexican pregnant teenagers have about puerperium, lactation, and newborn care were studied. Methods: An interpretative study was made based on the principles of the theory of social representations. Interviews were conducted to obtain information from 30 Mexican adolescents who attended prenatal care at the gynecological obstetrics area in a second-level hospital during 2015. Classical content analysis strategies were applied to analyze the information; this process consisted of coding and categorizing information. A conceptual map was also developed to describe the social representations found. Results: In this study, 190 codes and three social representations were identified: “breastfeeding is a practice based on myths,” “newborns are fragile,” and “mother and child must be synchronized.” Conclusions: Three social representations that explain the practices of adolescents toward breastfeeding and the care of them and their children were identified. They were acquired through family communication and strengthened by the need for support due to the temporary or permanent absence of the couple, personal crises motivated by bodily changes, fear of new modifications due to breastfeeding and ignorance about how to carry out breastfeeding and care during the puerperium.","PeriodicalId":100195,"journal":{"name":"Boletín Médico Del Hospital Infantil de México (English Edition)","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81717736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
