These mechanisms are complex and most likely related to the stringent response and dormancy. Neither newer investigational antimicrobial agents such as fluoroquinolones nor older agents such as tetracyclines, alone or in combination, have been shown to be effective substitutes for the combination of a penicillin and an aminoglycoside against enterococci. The NCCLS should be encouraged to institute a subcommittee to study this problem as has been done with other areas of susceptibility testing. {"title":"Chlamydia pneumonae: A Treatable Cause of Atherosclerosis?","authors":"James A.S. The research described here provides a unique approach to our understanding of atherogenesis and complements our current understanding that endothelial cell dysfunction is an early event essential to the onset of the inflammatory response that leads to plaque formation.
