The paper outlines the approach that has been undertaken. Furthermore, it describes a Software System for the support of SMEs in the introduction of CE by self-assessment, case presentation, and tool selection. Engine classes representative of the range of products of all European manufacturers will be included. CYPRESS will particularly investigate the effects of engine design and cycle on the relationships between CO<sub>2</sub> and NO<sub>X</sub>. An Su-24 ‘sounder’ aircraft equipped with an air sampling and collection system has been established to obtain the necessary atmospheric samples in flight, and procedures have been developed for performing the research flights. BE97-4044, was a collaborated effort aiming at promoting both unsteady aerodynamics and fluid-structure interaction.
