The objective is to describe nine cases of carotid artery resection and reconstruction due to tumor invasion.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>The clinical records of nine patients who underwent carotid resection and reconstruction at our hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Carotid body tumors were evaluated with the aid of a vascular team in case carotid resection was necessary at the time of surgery. CT angiography to determine the status of the circle of Willis was performed in all patients who might undergo carotid resection and reconstruction in case of failure to restore cerebral blood flow and thus reduce possible sequelae due to ligation.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Of nine patients, 6 had carotid body tumors, 1 had a thyroid tumor of conglomerate lymph nodes, 1 had a larynx tumor of conglomerate lymph nodes, and 1 had a myofibroblastic tumor. There were no intraoperative cerebrovascular accidents. One patient (11.1%) had a cerebrovascular accident secondary to carotid hematoma in the intermediate postoperative period that required vascular graft removal. One patient (11.1%) died seven days after surgery following an ischemic cerebrovascular accident. Eight patients remain asymptomatic, and 1 patient with recurrence and metastasis.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Carotid resection remains a controversial issue in the treatment of advanced head and neck cancer. However, carotid resection and reconstruction are required for disease control, and complications such as thrombosis or vascular accidents may arise. Fortunately, this is a rare condition. We recommend carotid reconstruction for all patients in whom resection is required for tumor control. A few lung nodules and ground glass opacities were incidentally found in a pre-operative evaluation in a 36-year-old female. The lung lesions showed waxing and waning in the follow-up chest CT. The introduction of unexplored substituents on the phosphine imidoyl nitrogen and/or phosphorus atoms should facilitate the discovery of unprecedented utility for phosphine imides. Herein, we have designed and prepared a novel class of phosphine imides known as N -borane-substituted cyclic phosphine imides (BCPIs). Experimental and theoretical analyses of the electronic structure of BCPIs demonstrate the existence of substantial negative hyperconjugation between the nitrogen and the phosphorus atoms. Given a characteristic nucleophilic/Lewis basic reactivity of BCPIs, we represent the first experimental demonstration that a  5 -oxazaphosphetane species is a key intermediate in the transformation of CO 2 using phosphine imides. Moreover, although it has been previously considered unlikely, the spontaneous heterolysis of a B ‒ Cl bond in a BCPI-coordinated chloroborane has been directly observed, suggesting that such process is a plausible key step in the Lewis acid-promoted generation of borenium species from chloroboranes. These results thus provide evidence of two species that have been missing in contemporary organic chemistry. Here, we present a study of carboxymethyl cellulose nanofiber (CMCF) hydrogels formed using solid-quasi liquid phase separation. CMCF hydrogels were formed simply by adding citric acid to frozen CMCF and thawing the mixture. The compressive strength of the freeze crosslinked CMCF was 200,000 times higher than that of CMCF hydrogel formed by a conventional crosslinking method. It was found that rearrangement of CMCF structures via hydrogen bonding proceeds in the freeze concentration layer before the ice crystals melt. Under freeze concentration, CMCF and bound water are confined at high concentrations. The crosslinking reaction in such a unique space contributed to the formation of CMCF hydrogel with high mechanical strength. We discuss the gelation behavior and properties of freeze crosslinked CMCF hydrogels and their applications. The phase separation of ice crystals and solutes and bound water that occurs during freezing can be used as a reaction field to form structurally ordered hydrogels. Thermogravimetric analysis under vacuum indicated that the 10-octyl-alkyl side chain of flavin sublimated at a lower temperature than the other flavins, with a saturation vapor pressure of 0.1 Pa at 200 °C. This allowed sublimation without the competing thermal reaction. Therefore, the 10-octyl-alkyl side chain of flavin is a surfactant that can separate and disperse semiconducting SWNTs for the effective utilization of their electrical properties. Moreover, it can be subsequently removed via sublimation. The flavin containing an octyl-alkyl chain (10-octyl-7,8-dimethyl-10H-benzo[g]-pteridine-2,4-dione) sublimated with a saturation vapor pressure of 0.1 Pa at 200 °C. This allowed sublimation without the competing thermal reaction. By using a previous technique, in which the original Ag–In–Ga–S/Ga–S core/shell QDs exhibiting band-edge photoluminescence (PL) were improved to achieve a narrower emission and facile synthesis, we injected a mixture of Cu and Ag sources into a heated solution containing In, Ga, and S sources. This resulted in the formation of Ag–Cu–In–Ga–S quinary QDs without any precipitation. After being coated with a Ga–S shell, these QDs exhibit a red-colored PL with a spectral full-width at half maximum of 55–60 nm. Although the PL wavelength was responsive to changes in In/Ga ratios, it was unaffected by variations in Cu/Ag ratios due to the transition between conduction band electrons and holes localized at Cu cites. Notably, the electroluminescence device exhibited high-purity red light that satisfies the recommendation ITU-R BT.2020 standard. Cadmium-free Ag–Cu–In–Ga–S/Ga–S core/shell quantum dots were synthesized by a scalable method and red emission was obtained from a free-to-bound transition via Cu-related localized states.
