First, it reveals a critical and comparative study of three representative Workflow mining systems (InWolve, WorkflowMiner and ProM). The major drawback of these systems is their inability to deal with organizational patterns mining. This work considers organizational patterns as being social structures defining the activity distribution among actors involved in the Workflow, as well as the interaction protocols ruling the communications between them. To compensate the previous drawback, the paper proposes an agent based approach that includes an Events Log model integrating the interactions among actors using a performativebased enrichment of Events Log. This paper also gives the principles of organizational patterns mining and shows how evaluate the quality of discovered patterns and notably the organizational structures in terms of flexibility, efficiency and robustness. Finally, it describes DiscoopFlow that implements a crisis case study to validate the contributions. These systems can not only be difficult and time consuming to implement, but can also be constrained in their scope due to issues arising from a shortage of available processing power. This work simultaneously presents solutions to these two problems by demonstrating a model for ABMS that allows a developer to design their own simulation, which is then automatically converted into code capable of running on a mainstream Graphical Processing Unit (GPU). By harnessing the extra processing power afforded by the GPU this paper creates simulations that are capable of running in real-time with more autonomous agents than allowed by systems using traditional x86 processors. In this area, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks and Multi-Agents Systems offer many techniques for web services discovery and composition. However, both of the two combinations (P2P/web services and MAS/web services) have suffered from some problems. This article presents a generic P2P/MAS architecture for semantic web services discovery. It tries to merge these two distributed technologies and demonstrate how P2P networks can implement open-MAS architectures to build a collaborative distributed system. The main objective of this article is to find the most appropriate P2P protocol to make such systems. Before the presentation of the proposed architecture, it already presents a background of P2P categories and models. After, it chooses four different P2P protocols wherever it analyzes and discusses, for each one, the stabilization and traffic generation of the network.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"58-71"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88852180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a fuzzy labeled transition system model FLTS for short. FLTS allows a concise action refinement representation and deals with incomplete information through its fuzziness representation. Afterward, based on FLTS model, we propose a refinement model called fuzzy labeled transition refinement tree FLTRT for short. The FLTRT structure serves as a tree of potential concurrent design trajectories of the system. Also, we introduce bisimulation relations for both models in order to identify equivalent design trajectories, which could be assessed with respect to relevant design parameters.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"65 1","pages":"1-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76108099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The captivating characteristics they provide such as decentralization, dynamic reorganization, self-organization, emergence, autonomy, etc., make them a perfect solution for handling current software systems challenges specially their unpredictable and highly changing working environments. Organization-centered MAS (OCMAS) are concerned with the modeling of MAS using higher order abstraction entities than individual agents. Organizational models are the key tool to develop OCMAS; they are currently an important part of most agent-oriented software engineering (AOSE) methodologies. This paper proposes a novel organizational model called NOSHAPE. It exploits the overlapping relationships among higher order abstraction entities such as organizations of agents, worlds of organizations, and even universes of worlds within MAS to realize and utilize their captivating characteristics. The NOSHAPE model is informally and semi-formally described and its applicability is demonstrated with a case study.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"26 1","pages":"32-57"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77876875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, finding meaningful rewards to motivate participation from the most qualified users, or experts, presents researchers with two main challenges: identifying these users and (2) rewarding their participation. Using an interdisciplinary theoretical framework, we illustrate possibilities for identifying and motivating the most valuable contributors to online communities. We suggest that access to peer-generated content can directly motivate people to apply their own expertise, thereby generating more content. Survey data from 380 participants suggests that users strongly prefer a novel class of incentives—reciprocal systemic rewards—to traditional achievement-based rewards. Overall, this research presents important considerations for many different types of online communities, including social networking and news aggregation sites. The challenge here is twofold. First, we must provide a formal model that is rich enough to capture interactions characteristics. Second, we must allow designers to combine existing protocols to achieve a new specific need. The paper introduces a formal analysis framework allowing the verification of the conformance between interaction protocols. The semantics of AiP notations used in our approach and its application are described on the basis of translation rules into colored Petri net. The key feature of this framework is the ability to model and formally verify composition of AiP, where particular protocols may then be selected and composed to support a new business task. Furthermore, an agent-based architecture that supports our approach is developed. The main goal of the proposed architecture is to address and tackle AiP composition in the context of Cloud-based enterprise application. In order to ensure consistency of the resulting organization, the reorganization process has to be controlled. This paper proposes a novel approach for controlling the reorganization process of Multi-Agent Systems, which are specified and implemented using the Framework OMACS (Organizational Model for Adaptive Computational Systems). The proposed control process is accomplished using the Framework MOP (Monitoring Oriented Programming) for supporting the verification of some reorganizational properties. These problems have been frequently addressed using multiagent, population-based approaches. One of the main sources of inspiration for techniques applicable to complex search space and optimisation problems is nature. This paper proposes a new metaheuristic – Penguin Huddling Optimisation or PHO – whose inspiration is beckoned from the huddling behaviour of emperor penguins in Antarctica. The simplicity of the algorithm, which is the implementation of one such paradigm for continuous optimisation, facilitates the analysis of its behaviour and the derivation of the optimal value for its single adjustable parameter in the update equation. A series of experimental trials confirms the promising performance of the optimiser over a set of benchmarks, as well as its competitiveness when compared against few other well-known population based algorithms.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"8 1","pages":"1-29"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87768048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"An Agent Based Hydro Informatics Approach for the Engagement of Farmers in Irrigation Water Management in Saudi Arabia","authors":"Tagelsir Mohamed Gasmelseid","doi":"10.4018/ijats.2014010103","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4018/ijats.2014010103","url":null,"abstract":"The use of software agent systems and technologies to simulate water resources management scenarios and improve the engagement of stakeholders in policy making is gaining paramount importance. Such importance originates from two main concerns or change agents. Firstly, the context of water management is becoming highly complicated due to the intensity of connections with other systems, the diversity of stakeholders and the multiplicity and sometime conflicting objectives of decision partners. Moreover, the domain used for capitalizing on water management issues is becoming planetary as it is the case of shared basins rather than being local watershed, watercourse, scheme, etc.. As a result, the concern is not limited to the optimization of the utility matrix of stakeholders but additional attention is required to incorporate many emerging issues such as the maintenance of financial sustainability, functional mainstreaming and improving engagement to promote reconciliation and change of water use behaviors. Secondly, the recent technological developments have improved the processing capacity of hardware, software functionalities and the accessibility of telecommunication platforms. Such developments have been reflected in the improvement of the capacities of decision makers to address complex problem domains. Software agents' technologies possess the qualities that make them useful for the provision of decision support in water management domains. As it is the case of irrigated agriculture, software agents' technology can be used for the design of farm surface irrigation systems, the improvement of irrigation systems management and the enhancement of the involvement of farmers in the processes of integrated water management. This paper is concerned with the use of agent based systems to facilitate the engagement of farmers in Al Ahsaa area in the management of water resources. The government of the Kingdom is adopting a demand management approach for the management of irrigation water by discouraging the cultivation of water-consuming crops such as wheat and dates. Improving the ability of farmers to analyze alternative cropping patterns significantly affects their water use behavior.","PeriodicalId":93648,"journal":{"name":"International journal of agent technologies and systems","volume":"244 1","pages":"45-64"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77866231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
