Very few descriptions are known from Tunisia. We have conducted a retrospective study including 60 cases of spinal tuberculosis, performed over a period of 20 years (1996-2016). The diagnosis was retained on bacteriological, radiological and anatomopathologic evidence. Sixty cases including 31 women and 29 men of spinal tuberculosis were involved. The mean age was 54.4 ± 21.3 years. The delay from onset to diagnosis was 6 months (1-14). Lumbar region was the most common infection site (68%). The magnetic resonance imaging has confirmed spinal infection in all cases. The percutaneous image guided spinal biopsy was conclusive in 24/42 cases (57.1%). All patients were put under anti-tuberculosis treatment with total treatment duration of 14 months. Fourteen patients underwent surgical act. The outcome was favorable in 42 cases (7%). Advanced age ≥ 65 years (P = 0.026), radiological evidence of spinal cord compression (P = 0.033) or abscess (P = 0.024), hyperleucocytosis higher than 11,500 elements/mm3 (0.031), or fractures on bone imaging (P = 0.018) and vertebral deformity (P < 0.001) were strongly linked to a bad outcome. Early diagnosis and treatment onset may ensure better outcomes and reduce neurological complications and vertebral deformity.","PeriodicalId":9353,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique","volume":"86 1","pages":"71-78"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80730833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Physicians are often unfamiliar with its existence. Although serious complications remain low regarding the high prevalence of this practice, urgent cares could be required. Indeed, implant of nodule can have functional sequelae, and sometimes life-threatening consequences, especially if infection occurs and spreads. We have reported the case of a 23-year-old male who presented an infection of the penis after the implant of two APN. Removal of the nodules associated with oral antibiotics was needed. We also present CT-scan images of another patient, as an example of fortuitous discovery of these nodules. We finally discuss the various complications already described in literature.","PeriodicalId":9353,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique","volume":"69 1","pages":"114-118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78326176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Samples were collected monthly from 13 stations within the watershed. The direct concentration method and the Ziehl-Neelsen technique were employed in the identification of these parasites. The physicochemical analysis showed that the water samples had a neutral pH (7.46±0.46), lowly mineralized (165.61±110.02μS/cm), moderately oxygenated (60.64 ± 17, 25%), present moderate organic pollution (2.85±2.49mg/l KMnO4). KMnO4) and low levels of orthophosphate (1.8±1.88 mg/l PO43-) and nitrates (2.47±5.06 mg/l NO3-). Biological analysis revealed the presence of Cryptosporidium spp. (143.98±203.35 oocysts/l), Isospora belli (88.47 ± 123.19 oocysts/l), Cyclospora cayetanensis (141.31±143.19 oocysts/l) and Sarcocystis hominis (76 ± 111.04 oocysts/l). The highest densities of these parasites were recorded at the Mufueh stream, situated in the periurban area. Meanwhile, the lowest densities were found in the urban area (Formuki, Mankon, Ayaba and Mezam streams). The dry season showed higher densities of oocysts (471.42±216.32 oocysts /l). Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation (P ≤ 0.05) between the density of the organisms and the physico-chemical parameters such as pH, oxidability, dissolved oxygen and nitrates. Respecting basic hygienic rules as well as treating water before use would reduce the risk of contamination of the population.","PeriodicalId":9353,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique","volume":"112 2 1","pages":"61-70"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69372722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
