Ngwa","doi":"10.7191/JGR.2019.1061","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7191/JGR.2019.1061","url":null,"abstract":"Methods and Materials: A 2-hour real-time video didactic lecture and demonstration of the left parotid tumor contouring on axial CT images was delivered using the ProKnow system and a video conferencing software. Participants were granted week-long access to practice contouring of the left parotid volume after the session. Effectiveness of the remote training was evaluated with a self-assessment questionnaire administered before and after the training. Areas of competence assessed included: (i) ability to identify anatomic structure on axial CT; (ii) ability to contour a parotid volume; (iii) ability to delineate tissues; (iv) dose-volume histogram evaluation (DVH); (v) plan evaluation; (vi) port film evaluation; (vii) cone-beam CT evaluation (CBCT). A comparative statistical analysis was undertaken to evaluate for significant changes in the average self-competence score for the various competency areas before and after intervention. Chipungu, Kara-Lee Pool","doi":"10.7191/JGR.2018.1045","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7191/JGR.2018.1045","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose\u0000Training medical providers of different backgrounds the \"focused assessment with sonography for HIV-associated TB\" (FASH) exam to expand the availability of ultrasound for TB diagnosis in resource poor settings in the central region of Malawi.\u0000\u0000\u0000Methods and Materials\u0000A survey was completed by the 19 eligible participants before and after a 4-day training course regarding the utility of the FASH exam. A six-question quiz was used to assess knowledge of the use of ultrasound in the FASH exam before and after the course.\u0000\u0000\u0000Results\u0000Participants' knowledge of the FASH technique significantly improved after the four-day course with a 32% increase in total quiz questions answered correctly (p<0.001).Ninety-five percent (n= 18) of participants answered that they would \"likely\" incorporate FASH in their clinical practice. Furthermore, 100% (n=19) of participants agreed that the FASH exam would improve their ability to diagnose TB and 95% (n=18) agreed that FASH would improve patient care in their clinic.\u0000\u0000\u0000Conclusions\u0000After completing a 4-day training course, medical providers were more knowledgeable about the FASH exam and its findings, and felt more comfortable using ultrasound for the diagnosis of TB.
