Adolescents are distinct group to study, as they are free from societal pressures to act in certain ways. Thus, present study is planned to study the role of optimism-pessimism in adolescent’s personality how this orientation contributes in perceiving inter-parental conflict. Differences regarding demographic variables like gender are also explored on inter-parental conflict, aggression and optimism-pessimism.","PeriodicalId":92680,"journal":{"name":"Journal of psychiatry and behavioral science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47529379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ketogenic (i.e., low carbohydrate) diet provides the brain with a highly efficient mitochondrial fuel and is associated with improved cognitive performance in older adults with impaired neurocognitive functioning secondary to ageing, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease; however, whether these cognitive gains are generalizable to older adults with HAND is unknown. Thus, the process and cognitive outcomes of the first participant randomized to the intervention and to the control group were investigated in this case-comparison study. To our knowledge, this is first report to establish the plausibility of the ketogenic diet as a treatment for HAND.","PeriodicalId":92680,"journal":{"name":"Journal of psychiatry and behavioral science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90099914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: A mixed methods observational study; analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from service documents, clinical records and interviews with service providers enabled a detailed account of the intervention and impact. To enhance transferability analysis was informed by a theoretical model of behaviour change. Results: Provision of education, training, a portable monitoring kit and environmental restructuring was associated with substantial, sustained improvement in metabolic monitoring, with measures completed for ~90% of patients at six and 12 months post-implementation. Girth and/or BMI indicate risk of metabolic syndrome for most patients. Clinical Implications: Given opportunity, capable clinicians motivated to improve patient outcomes, can integrate additional practices in routine care. Mobile metabolic monitoring is sensible, effective and acceptable to people who avoid services.","PeriodicalId":92680,"journal":{"name":"Journal of psychiatry and behavioral science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49017024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the existing literature, conduct disorder is associated with lower IQ, mainly verbal intelligence, in relation to the general sameage population. Objective: This study aimed to examine the differences in verbal and performance intelligence, on children and adolescents with and without conduct disorder in a Greek sample. Methods: The sample consisted of 121 Greek children and adolescents. Seventy-nine (65.3%) of the participants were girls and 42 (34.7%) were boys, age range between 9 and 17 years (Mean=13.43, SD=2.63). Fifty-five (45.5%) of the participants had a diagnosis of conduct disorder and 61 (54.5%) were healthy (control group). Conduct disorder diagnosis was made using the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age ChildrenPresent and Lifetime version (K-SADS-PL), while Intelligence (IQ) was estimated using the vocabulary and block design subscales of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV. Results: For the whole sample, IQ scores (verbal IQ, performance IQ and total IQ) ranged within the normal values. No statistically significant differences on IQ scores were found based on participants’ gender and age. Participants with conduct disorder showed significantly lower scores on the performance and total IQ in relation to the scores of the participants of the control group. Conclusion: This study highlights the correlation between CD and cognitive abilities, especially low IQ, something that has not been given much attention so far.","PeriodicalId":92680,"journal":{"name":"Journal of psychiatry and behavioral science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48034157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
