Drawing on the author’s experience as a psychotraumatologist and trauma psychotherapist, it is argued that existing models only go so far in describing a person’s experience and in providing a basis for therapy. A biopsychosociospiritual model is therefore introduced where the spiritual element allows for the spiritual dimension of human experience to be addressed in psychological formulation and therapy. Biopsychosociospiritual models of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress are proposed. It is argued that a biopsychosociospiritual frame of understanding provides an additional and much needed layer with which to work both from the client’s and the therapist’s perspective.","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"80 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79271104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It examines how the counsellor can achieve client transformation using shamanic methodologies within a flexible Collaborative Pluralistic framework of counselling and psychotherapy. It addresses gender issues in relation to therapy and spirituality, by examining feminist forms of therapy and female constructs of spirituality. The results of practitioner research undertaken in the UK by a pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist are presented, exploring relationships between shamanic methodology and the Psychological Spiritual paradigm in therapy. The paper explores how spiritual experiences may be constructed through a qualitative inquiry involving fieldwork and interviewing. It concludes that Collaborative Pluralism’s emphasis on providing a humanistic and collaborative experience of therapy allows clients a constructivist experience of counselling and psychotherapy. This epistemological position offers possibilities for creating sacred space in therapy, by supporting a broad interpretation of female constructs of spirituality.","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79306121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It evolves from a personal journey (autoethnography) from the study of fine art principles towards the practice of transpersonal coaching and the actualisation of the theories and principles of transpersonal and coaching psychology respectively. The flow of the journey travels through an appreciation of the creation of art, how to understand art and what this may mean to the individual, the links to some psychological principles and the formation of a methodology which combines the learned elements for the practitioner/ participant (coach/coachee) to understand the self in their present condition.","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77263257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The word ‘imagery’ is used here in its broadest sense to include not only visual images but also those which are related to other senses. The techniques include spot imaging, guided fantasy, spontaneously occurring images, and dreams, all of which are capable of leading to therapeutic insights, thereby revealing that there is an unconscious source of intuitive wisdom. The recognition of sub-personalities is cited as an example. The importance of good recording is emphasised. Most of the examples are taken from her own experiences as a workshop participant and from her own dreams and self-analysis. This last carries a warning about the use of imagery in unsupervised self-analysis because of the danger of dredging up material which one is unable to handle alone. The lack of professional regulation in the 1970s gave rise to some negative experiences because of the lack of understanding of the power of evoked imagery.","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87301918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It argues that the transformative power of these practices can be regarded as transpersonal. Additionally, such an approach can be rapidly implemented across groups and entire communities. Therefore, building communities of narrative practice is more efficient and effective than traditional care model and one-to-one psychological interventions. The paper argues that it is an appropriate approach to a crisis situation – such as the aftermath of the Grenfell fire – where rapid community intervention is needed. (This paper is written in preparation for the workshop in collaboration with Cruse Bereavement Care UK at the BPS East of England Branch 1st Annual Conference: Applying psychology in the Eastern region: From theory to practice, at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge on 8 September 2017. The workshop offers an opportunity to train more psychologists, counsellors, social workers, community leaders and trainers who may not be familiar in this approach thereby widening access to psychological interventions.)","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77352507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to critically examine the organisational practice that relates to transpersonal psychology by drawing on major theories and findings in the broad area of transpersonal applications. In this paper, we argue that the values of the transpersonal are being communicated indirectly at work. They are subsumed ‘under’ or ‘by’ ‘spirituality’, which in turn is subsumed by the term ‘value’. We conclude that transpersonal psychology clearly has an important role to play in the workplace, and suggest possible ways as to how to move the discipline forward.","PeriodicalId":92595,"journal":{"name":"Transpersonal psychology review","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84154607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
