We have designed a multi-tier architecture and simulated a heterogeneous, autonomous, and energy efficient wireless sensor network system to overcome issues faced by existing patient monitoring system in CICU such as manual collection and processing of data. The improvement of the patient monitoring system has the objectives of providing affordable and better health care service provision as well as autonomous and automatic collection and processing of patient's bio-signals and environmental data. The proposed Wireless Sensor Network consists of wireless heterogeneous nodes which sense patient bio-signals, measure environmental parameters in the hospitalization rooms such as ambient temperature, quality of air and send collected data to a gateway (central node) for processing and storage. The conducted simulation experiments show that the proposed sensor network architecture which uses ZigBee wireless standard and protocol highly improves the patience monitoring and surveillance experience at CICU. It promotes collection and autonomous processing of patient physiological data and room ambient temperature data. Incorporating such system in CICU will be highly beneficial for taking a correct decision during treatment. Beyond the accuracy and quality of the collected medical data, proposed WSN is also designed to reduce the energy consumption within the sensor network system.","PeriodicalId":92560,"journal":{"name":"MMHealth'16 : proceedings of the 2016 ACM Workshop on Multimedia for Personal Health and Health Care : October 16, 2016, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The IKEA effect shows that individuals evaluate products assembled by themselves more positively than pre-assembled products. The IKEA effect has been proven in several domains, e.g., in human robot interaction, where participants who assembled the robot evaluated the robot and the interaction with the robot more favorably than participants who did not assemble the robot themselves. We propose that the IKEA effect exists in the context of mobile health persuasive technology and has high potential for improving users' engagement and long-term user experience of mobile health persuasive applications. In this paper, we describe the IKEA effect and its potential for mobile health applications. In addition, we propose an experimental design to analyze the effect of self-assembly on user engagement and satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":92560,"journal":{"name":"MMHealth'16 : proceedings of the 2016 ACM Workshop on Multimedia for Personal Health and Health Care : October 16, 2016, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a dual screen application (handheld and TV) that allows patients to view hypervideos designed to help them correctly perform their exercises. This approach lets patients adapt their training to their daily needs and their overall training progress. We evaluated this prototypical implementation in a user test with post-operative care prostate cancer patients. From our results, we derived design recommendations for dual screen physical training hypervideo applications.","PeriodicalId":92560,"journal":{"name":"MMHealth'16 : proceedings of the 2016 ACM Workshop on Multimedia for Personal Health and Health Care : October 16, 2016, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In this research, we look into mining users' wellness in terms of three aspects of users' lifestyle: activities, food and medication. This is done by analysing users' public social posts on twitter (text), FourSquare (location), Instagram (image) and Endomonda (Sensor). We then develop a multi-source multi-task learning model to mine users' individual wellness profiles as well as group profiles for critical illnesses, such as the debate and obesity. Such illnesses are of key concerns to many individuals and government agencies. From critical illnesses, we further explore the combination of social wellness analytics with other healthcare resources towards building a \"big-data-driven knowledge-oriented healthcare support network\". The network offers the latest healthcare knowledge drawn upon information from five heterogeneous sources. They are: (a) the authoritative and reliable healthcare knowledge bases such as the WebMD; (b) the community QA sites such as the HealthTap where questions by users were answered by doctors; (c) crowd-based sources such as the Patientslikeme that contains many treatment records voluntarily shared by the patients; (d) the social signals gathered from social media platforms that cover mostly safety and critical illness-related issues; and (e) other miscellaneous information such as the weather, health sensors and medication related knowledge. Extensive research has been done to automatically integrate the gathered information into a comprehensive healthcare taxonomy and a vertical domain question-answering system. One use case of such system is to realize a social D2D (Doctor-to-Doctor) network, aiming to bridge the know-how gap between the well-trained doctors in the cities and community doctors serving the rural areas. Such network will help to enrich the knowledge and bring credibility to community doctors, and hence alleviate the imbalance in healthcare resources in many developing countries.","PeriodicalId":92560,"journal":{"name":"MMHealth'16 : proceedings of the 2016 ACM Workshop on Multimedia for Personal Health and Health Care : October 16, 2016, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
