There are fresh spots over the chest, but those of older date are disappearing. The skiin is cooler and more moist; the tongue is cleaner; the bowels are still costive; pulse 100, softer; the throat is sore. The enema was repeated, and a hydroclhloric acid gargle was ordered. May 28th. She slept a little, and feels much better. The right hand is much swollen and painful; the feet are less so. The skin is hot and moist; there is less eruption; the colour of many blotches is less red; others are of various colours. These last are not raised. The tongue is coated in the centre. Slhe complains of tllirst and vomiting, with slight abdominal pain and tenderness. The bowels have not been open for two days. Her urine is copious, acid, not albuminous. Pulse 100, more compressible. Eight leeches were ordered to be applied to the abdomen, and to be followed by fomentation. Three minims of dilute hydrocyanic acid were added to each dose of the medicine. May 29th. She slept better. The joints are free from pain, but still slightly swollen. She vomited a greenish coloured fluid, with mucus and half-digested milk; no sarcine. There is pain in the hypogastric region, increased by pressure. The bowels are not open. The breasts are soft, and free from pain. The abdomen, since the fomentation, has been covered wit,h eruption-not in blotches, but one uniform mass of red papill, of blood, slightly raised. The rest of the eruption is losing its colouir. There is no pain in the purpuric eruption, except on the abdomen. May 30th. No fresh spots of eruption have appeared; the former ones are assuming a bruised appearance. She has no Vomiting or pain in the hypogastric region. The pain in the joints has retuLrned, and prevented sleep. Pulse 120, strong, and full. June 2nd. She has been improving since last note. She was ordered to have compound chalk and opium powder occasionally; an ounce of decoction of cinchona three times a day; and better diet. June I1th. Since last note, she has complained only of pain in the joints, relieved by leeching. She has been taking meat and porter for some days. There has been no appearance of the eruption till last night, when she felt a stinging sensation sn the left ,roin, where there is to be seen now a patch of extravasated blood, as large as the palm of the hand, distinctly raised above the level of the skin, and surrounded with an areola of greenish yellow. She complains of much pain in the right arm and shoulder. SInmINo, M.D. p. 788. London: 18S4. A wea that might serve as a text-book, embracing the pinipal facts of Pathological Anatomy, has for some time pine been a groat desideratum. The one before us constiStut anoher volume of Mr. Churchill's series of manuals; ib authors being well kcnown to the profesion by their rigina minvestigations, and possesed of high qualifications *r the task. They have produced a very comprehenive book, which must prove acceptable to the profession. It will be found a useful work of reference on the generl subjet of pathological anatomy; and a valuable, not to -ay a necessary, compaion to the student in his po mor* invetigations. Ti. object of the authors, as declared in their prefatory notice, has been \" to place before the reader a summary of scertained facts, together with the opinions of the most ent pathologists of this and other countries\". At the ne time, they have not spoken \" solely on the faith of -ethers-even the highest authorities-but have investigated as much as possible for themselves the correctness of the statements they have adopted\". The volume commences with the General Pathological Anatomy, by Dr. JONES, in five chapters: 1. Gpneral Obseations; 2. The Morbid States of the Blood; 3. Textual Changes; 4. New Formations, Tumours; 5. Parasites. Then follows the Pathological Anatomy of-1. The Nervous System, including the membranes, the brain, spinal eord, nerves, and sympathetic system; 2. The Organs of Circulation; and 3. The Organs of Respiration, by Dr. SnBvKING; 4. The Alimentary Canal, including the mouth and fauces, the teeth, the liver, and the abdominal organs and lands; 5. The Urinary Apparatus and Male Organs of e=eration, by Dr. Jones; 6. The Female Organs of Goneration, with the morbid condition preceding and following parturition, by Dr. Sieveking; 7. Diseases of the Joints, by l)r. Jones; 8. The Osseous System, by Dr. Sieveking. This will convey to our readers the nature and extent of the work, with the order in which the various parts are arranged, and the subjects treated of by each of the authors. The book consists of 788 densely printed pages, in fortythree chapters, and contains a hundred and sixty seven engravings, from drawings taken from objects that have been examined by the authors, She whole of which are remarkably well executed. Our pages will not admit of any generl review, analytical or critical, of a work which, although coming under the denomination of a \" Manual\", is so extensive and complete as the one before us. We can do little more than offer a few comments in reference to its execution; and, recommending it to the members of the Association as a work replete with ;nformation, we are bound to criticise some points in justice to ourselves, and in the kindest feeling towards the authors.
