Therefore, more suitable distributions are needed to model the data. In this study, a new distribution is generated with exponential marginals Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern distribution. Specifications and characteristics of this new distribution are studied. The structure of the proposed distribution is discussed statistically and the parameter estimation for the new distribution is made by known methods. In addition, reliability analysis has performed. Due to the shape and flexibility of the proposed distribution, it is thought to be an alternative to distributions which are used for modeling flow data. Efficiency on the statistical modeling of the new distribution can be detected by using flow data sets in literature. Furthermore, Terme and Sefaatli Creeks' flow-data obtained from Turkish State Water Affairs Directorate are used to model. It is concluded that this new distribution offers a model that can be used effectively in stream flows.","PeriodicalId":91518,"journal":{"name":"International journal of statistics and applications","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84502707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study employs Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to investigate the theoretical structure of the self-reported version of the SDQ in a sample of adolescents in Benue state, Nigeria. A total of 1,244 adolescents from different categories of secondary schools in Makurdi and Vandekya Local government areas of Benue state participated in the study. Preliminary data analyses were performed using descriptive statistics while the theoretical structure of the SDQ was assessed using EFA and CFA. Model fits were assessed using Chi-square test and other fit indices at 5% significance level. Participants were 14.19±2.45 (Vandekya) and 14.19±2.45 (Makurdi) years old. Results of the EFA and CFA revealed a 3-factor oblique model as the best model for the sample of adolescents studied (<i>χ</i><sup>2</sup>/<i>df</i> =2.20, p<0.001) with all fit indices yielding better results. A correlated 3-factor model fits the present data better than the 5-factor theoretical model of the SDQ. Recent reports say that the most frequent conditions of psychiatric hospitalization are related to elderly, over 65 years old, diagnosed with dementia, other organic disorders and depression. And we are seeing increasingly in episodes of urgency, consumption of psychoactive drugs, which can foster the emergence of other comorbidities. The aim of this study was to characterize from a socio-demographic, clinical and functional point of view, older people who staged an emergency episode in a psychiatric hospital. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study. The sample consisted of 99 elderly people involved in a psychiatric emergency episode in the biennium 2013/2014 and data were collected from the initial evaluation form (IE). Results: People with dementia have more associated diseases than others with other mental Illnesses. Some are at higher risk for potential episodes of falls and loss of functionality and associated factors. Conclusion. More cognitive and functional impairment, evidenced in the functional dependency cycle. The quality of care in later age, requires a multidimensional and interdisciplinary approach. Initial assessment must be complete and holistic in order to give the best care.","PeriodicalId":91518,"journal":{"name":"International journal of statistics and applications","volume":"289 1","pages":"15-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77905761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As these rates are usually unstable due to small denominators, these require smoothing in both dimensions. We demonstrated the application of a two dimensional nearest neighbour method for smoothing age- and year- specific cardiac procedure and death rates. SAS macros were provided for smoothing two rates successively, however these can be adapted to smooth more than two rates or event counts, if required. We found that for the example data sets, the order of the moving average in both year and age dimensions was three and hence a nine point weighted moving average was justified. We demonstrated that in terms of better calibration and capturing important changes in data, the proposed smoother outperformed a similar smoother assigning maximum weight to the central cell but equal weights around it. The degree of smoothing increased with increase in the assigned central cell weight. In conclusion, because of its simplicity, the proposed nearest neighbour smoother provides a convenient alternative to the existing two dimensional smoothers and is useful in situations requiring smoothing a series of rates or counts in two dimensions. A robust version of the smoother is also available from the author.","PeriodicalId":91518,"journal":{"name":"International journal of statistics and applications","volume":"272 1","pages":"31-46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88846296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, the interest in knowing associated factors to those variables is to prevent morbidity and mortality risk. The study aim was to evaluate the relationship between mental disorders, nutritional status and blood pressure. Its a cross-sectional study in a sample of 99 elderly living in community that had a psychiatric emergency episode. Data were collected from the initial evaluation form (IE). Results show multiple pathologies, cognitive deficits, high blood pressure and change in body mass index (BMI). Conclusions: In most of the sample BMI is associated with several co morbidities and co-exists with a temporal disorientation and arterial hypertension. Prevention is the key to maintaining health and well-being. The changes in body composition associated with the aging process are reflected in increased of fat body mass, at visceral level, and decreased of lean body mass expressed in sarcopenia, decreased of bone mass and decreased of water at the expense of intracellular sector (1). Therefore, the nutrition and health of the elderly have to be framed in an enlarged perspective covering all his life. With aging, come upon changes in eating behavior, which will lead to major differences in the choice of food, influenced in turn by the interaction of several factors: biological, economic, psychological and social ones. The association of changes in Body Mass Index (BMI) with changes in blood pressure predispose the outbreak of severe pathological conditions such as coronary heart disease, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease and kidney failure (2), reasons which pro-active steps are needed. In developed countries, the obvious malnutrition can reach 5-10% of the elderly living in their homes and more than 50% in elderly patients and at the time of hospital discharge (1). As people live longer, the quality of longer life becomes a central issue for personal life and social well-being. Consequently, it is frequent multiple pathologies and also dementia. Dementia is commonly associated with alterations in the nutritional status of which weight loss is the mos t","PeriodicalId":91518,"journal":{"name":"International journal of statistics and applications","volume":"5 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84995669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
